Dirty Gun Thread?

What is this you ask. It's a thread where we document how poorly we treat a gun... Kind of.

I don't like cleaning guns, hate it in fact. So here will be a place to document a few things:

-Gun
-each time it's taken out and shot
-how many rounds fired
-kind of ammo(s) used
-any issues

Goal is to not clean the gun afterwards but instead to see how many rounds it can handle before it needs to be cleaned, over multiple outings.

Needing to be cleaned is defined by the following:
-Malfunctions that can only be attributed to being too dirty/fouled (not mag or ammo related)
-Loss of accuracy (groups opening up, keyholes etc)

Either or both of those will be your guide to cleaning. We will develop and average for typical firearms in terms of:
-Avg Rounds Between Cleaning (ARBC)
-Avg Rounds between Malfunction (ARBM)
-Avg Rounds Between Loss of Accuracy (ARBLA)

Loss of accuracy will not be considered a malfunction, only typical FTF/FTE's.

As a secondary data point if loss of accuracy and keyholing starts and continues after cleaned and different ammo used we will determine barrel life as well.

Allowable maintenance:
-You can spray the chamber/action/bore with your favorite oil/clp
-you can wipe down the externals of the firearm with your favorite oil/clp

What you can not do:
-disassemble your firearm and wipe anything away/oil/CLP in a disassembled state. Interior is to be left alone.
-no boresnakes either

*For those that don't want to wait until a malfunction occurs, if you gun makes it 1000 rounds prior to being cleaned malfunction free post it is well. Goes for every thousand rounds fired and uncleaned without malfunction yet cleaned prior to malfunctions or loss of accuracy showing up. Must be documented

I have a transferable Uzi.   It has maybe been cleaned once or twice in the many, many years that I have owned it.   Last time that it got cleaned.    I had to.   I let a guy shoot some corrosive ammo in it, and the barrel got a little nasty.   I don't deep clean it.   Just spray it  with wd 40, wipe and oil.

So I'll start with a few

Today I realized my 10/22 has gone a while without a cleaning and I saw a loss of accuracy.

Prior to record keeping this 10/22 had roughly 2,700 rounds through it with multiple cleaning.

The 350 rounds prior to this it leaded out twice and was cleaned both times.

It's similar to the thread in one of the pistol forums about not cleaning until malfunction occurred.

Figure I'll do a similar one in GD and look at all firearms.

Similar to Pistol-Training test as well.

I keep records on all my guns so I update them after each range outing

For this thread I am only posting on the guns I shoot the most often and so I clean the lest.

My SD/HD/CCW guns get cleaned fairly soon after shooting.

I started a few years ago to keep track of maintenance/parts changed/spring changes/malfunctions etc so I could see trends if they were developing.

What ammo doesn't a gun like etc. It's useful info to have.

Ruger MKII

Currently at 440 without cleaning but I think, though I didn't write it down that the accuracy was starting to decrease.

So I am going to clean it today and start fresh.

This particular MKII has around 6,321 rounds through it and has been leaded out multiple time. Most notably by garbage Thunderbolts. Unfortunately I still have most of a brick of it...

DMPS AP4 (2007'ish)

Currently around 3,500-4,500 rounds through it. Mostly Wolf with some Brown Bear.

Has begun to keyhole over the last year.

I will clean it to remove any copper fouling and start fresh:

Current rounds since being cleaned last:
518

Result:
-Keyholing

I'll clean it and then test a few good ammo choices and Wolf and see if the barrel is shot out or not.

Good call, if it leads out that should be noted.

Personally I always used a brush and a fucking hammer....

I've punched out so much lead out of my MKII that I could have casted mags worth of new bullets...

Now I have some Butch's Bore Shine. Seemed to work. Reviews are fairly good.

The suppressor is twice as heavy as it was new.  That suppressor has also been used on a full auto .22 AR upper however. Once of these days I need to pound it apart a or send it in to the manufacturer. It was #25 off the production line though, kinda partial to it.

CZ Evo 3 Scorpion.

Never cleaned or lubed before I shot it the first time.
700-800 rounds through it.  All 9mm Perfecta and Federal Champion 115 gr.

Have an Eotech 512 on it and at 50 ft, hasn't lost a bit of accuracy.  Only 50 ft but that's hd range.
Has not failed one time either in any way.

Should probably clean it though... just aggravating to field strip a weapon for the first time.

The crud on the face of the bolt was preventing the round from sliding up into a locking position.

Just update the thread when you do.

But if you clean it before any reason other malfunctions or loss of accuracy then I can't use.

You know what, I'll add a 1000 round mark for those that don't want to wait that long but clean prior to any malfunction/loss of accuracy.

I'll do that for every 1000 rounds.
