If you were going to teach a class called "Stuff you need to know," what would you include? Tire changing, battery jumping, toilet clearing, all the stuff the millennials who didn't have capable daddies to teach them. What else?
I bet there's money to be made there! |

Basic cooking techniques. It's honestly shocking the amount of people that have no idea how to take a few ingredients in a kitchen and throw them together into something tasty and easy. This. Also, how to perform basic repairs/troubleshooting on mechanical and electrical devices, and to manage money responsibly. |
|
How to throw a punch. This one could take way too long .
How to pound a nail, identify both types of screwdrivers and use, righty tighty lefty loosey. Car shit Vehicles fluid checks , tire change, pressure gauge use and adjustment, fuse replacement, wash correctly. Replacement of worn disc pads. Cook a turkey, bake a cake |

I am constantly amazed by people who can't tell the difference between an asset and a liability, and have no concept of depreciation. Quoted:

You forgot finances, which I would say are the biggest struggle for ANY person. I am constantly amazed by people who can't tell the difference between an asset and a liability, and have no concept of depreciation. It does make haggling a bit more challenging.

Change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Basic phone courtesy, like identifying yourself when you make a call. "Hi, this is XXX, may I speak to YYY?" Them: "Is so and so there" Me: "With whom am I speaking to and what is the nature if your query" If they take longer than a second to begin anew or are unable to return a politely delivered and concise answer, I hang up "This is John and we would like to know..." as a response, does not meet my sensibilities and expectations |

The "money to be made" in this scenario OP, is the money made by those of us who do know how to do these things, and will get paid for doing them in the future. Where "the people" have no skills, the "people with skills" are highly valuable. Things still have to get done and get made in this world. Wanna teach others to do them, or wanna get paid? A.W.D. |

this should be mandatory in high school. Odds of you using calculus in your life, pretty low. Odds of you needing knowing how to balance your finances, very very high. Quoted:

Odds of you needing knowing how to balance your finances, very very high. For the average person, absolutely. I would drop one year of literature and make accounting / basic finance a mandatory class. In this too, provide guidance on how to fill out the most basic forms ones will need to do during employment. I can't fathom how many times I've seen people struggle to fill out a W9 because they have no idea what it's asking. Tell ya what too, educate people on things like finance and taxes...every state in the country will turn dark red. Demotards would be crushed. They prey and depend on the uneducated. |

People with skills will always be valuable, even if other people know how to do shit. I can conjure about 1200 things I know how to do but, would rather pay someone else to do it. Replacing a shower faucet springs immediately to mind. As does: Hanging drywall Painting (interior or exterior) Mowing my lawn Cleaning my gutters Fixing the house (general stuff, replacing receptacles, installing new fixtures, swapping breakers, whatever) Plumbing Automotive repair Installing carpet, laminate or tile Auto body Packing and moving and on and on I've done enough of everything on that list to be self-assured I'm *capable* of doing any of it. I'm just not willing to do it, now. I have more money than I have time. Someone else can come get dirty and then clean up afterwards. I'm going to do fun stuff in the interim. |
