I don't know anything about Mr. Williams or anything about this incident beyond watching the video in this thread, but I have been convinced for quite some time that O'reilly is a pompous turd, so that might have some impact on my opinion about who is right and who is wrong here.

Spent a day snowboarding with Montel, showing him around Park City. Cool dude who definitely enjoyed his weed on lift rides up.
Side note- Coolio is also a very decent snowboarder and fun guy to be around at a waspy ski resort. |

There's a way these things are handled, and changing format on your interviewee so that you can make an unprepared spectacle of them on air is an unprofessional shitheaded move, and no one with an ounce of class does anything like that. A lot of people just grin and bear it and try and make their way through like poor Tom Selleck up there, but there's nothing wrong with telling your host to fuck himself (or itself in Rosie's case) and walking out. Of course that's generally something you do in private, but sometimes the situation demands something else. I remember an interview with Steve Jobs back in the late 90's when he came back on after that retard Amelio had almost killed the company and he was pulling Apple back from the brink. He and the interviewer agreed not to discuss the bad blood between him and Bill Gates, Apple and Microsoft, at all, beforehand. So what does the interviewer do? Opens with gotcha questions on exactly that subject. Jobs smiled thinly, tapped the interviewer on the leg, said something to the effect of, "We agreed we weren't going to discuss that," gave him his mic and walked off the set. End of interview. Sounds like Montel did exactly the same thing, just before it started. Except O'Reilly decided to be a bitch and call Montel out in public, because he's a blowhard with a planet-sized ego. O'Reilly got exactly the response he deserved. |
