This defensive suppression weapon is significantly smaller and lighter than it's big brother the M134. It was meant to stand in place of anywhere high suppressive fire wanted without the weight or footprint of the larger M134 electrically driven Gatling gun system. The current XM556 Microgun is smaller and lighter than some current 5.56mm beltfed Squad Automatic Weapons currently on the market, with 4x's the firepower.
The XM556 is a new platform system that was designed from scratch by the ground up. The parts are not just a smaller imitation of the larger M134, but were designed on its own. An absolutely all new style of bolt was conceived and designed to eliminate current known issues with the M134. The bolts combined with many other improvements have been made to not only extend the life of the gun but reduce wear and reduce or eliminate stoppages. Source |

It also weighs like 20 pounds less. |

Quoted: I liked the comment that to get around the Hughes amendment they're looking at a hand-crank version. Interesting possibilities there. |

I did a thread about this, but it was over a year ago, and stuff this cool needs to be brought up at least once a year. The next step is obvious. 5.7x28mm. Picogun. You could fit a LOT of those little cartridges on a backpack. ![]() Say hello to my lil pico. ![]() ![]()

That would blow out the headlights. On the upside the continuous muzzle flash would be bright enough to drive by. Quoted:

I'm actually very surprised that hand-cranked MGs aren't more popular. Quoted:

When done properly, that can be as accurate as any MG. A shop/range where I used to live had a really nice custom-built crank trigger for a semi 1919. With the T&E on the tripod, you could put bullets wherever you wanted them. Now for shoulder-fired applications... yes, they'd be useless. But people buy all sorts of useless stuff because it's fun. |

Have one on each side to PPP up out of the fenders, like the Barmobile

Anybody have the background on this Empty Shell LLC? Seems like they're doing some cool shit with what seems like decent funding. I imagine they're a small outfit of ex-employees of previous firearm manufacturing companies. If you have Facebook try and join NFAG the guy that is designing and building it has been posting updates on the build progress for some time. |

Any reason you can't use an exercise bicycle with a big ass flex shaft to power the gun? Then you could hit a target... |
