Shotgun plate rack, are they shooting slugs?

Sometimes. .....

It depends on the range,  closer they are the more likely that it's shot

I've only shot in 4 matches. But so far no. All the steel slug targets at the club where I shoot have been at least 40 yard plates so far. We have had some close up paper targets though.

On a plate rack it's almost always bird shot. You usually won't engage steel with a slug closer than 50 yards. Most of the time it's a DQ to shoot poppers or plates with a slug.

Are you thinking about trying 3 gun?

Usually a dq for hitting steel with a slug, any close up slugs are usually on an ipsc cardboard silhouette. Sometumes you have to shoot the steel with shot and then the slug target pops up

I'm wanting to give a 3 gun match a go, I've been shooting USPSA for a bit over a year & I'm hooked, I'd shoot a match everyday if I could, I live in a small town & we only have a match once a month the third Saturday.
What a blast!!

It is absolutely the most fun I have ever had with a gun. Ours are monthly too. I'll be out of state next month, and I'm already pissy that I'm missing it.

A club about 2 hours away do a man on man steel match every couple months that I try to hit, it's damn fun, I like the thinking part of USPSA.

You know when you had a good shotgun run on a stage requiring a mix of shot and slugs.

I was at a bigger match and was banking not missing any shot targets before the middle of the stage had slugs. Ran the round count over and over and over again in my head. Ended up loading correctly and didn't miss a beat.

It's ballsy to do something like that, just have to commit to a plan and hope you don't miss and need to reload more than you absolutely have to.

This here.  Once, I was at a match that allowed us to bang up the spinner at close range with slugs.... And another club that had steel for slugs at 30 yards.  Most of the time it's poppers from 50-100 yards.

Honestly, getting the count right like that is a great feeling.
It's relief and joy at the same time.
It's addicting!

Full choke or buckshot.

I messed with a buddies 20ga with full choke. Even with bird shot I had no problems with the plate rack & Texas Star.

I think I've only used buckshot on a plate rack that was 25 yards out. Otherwise, it's just plain 7 1/2 bird.
Although, A lot of clubs don't use the plate rack for shotgun since it's typically better and more challenging with a pistol or rifle.

After I bought 500 rounds of slugs we quit shooting slugs in our matches..I am well stocked with slugs..

I'm looking to get into it, but need a decent shotgun.

My local range only has one bay that allows carbine/rifle drills, and you have to shoot their 3 gun matches to get access.  Dumb, but I might as well.

Most budget friendly solution is a Stoeger M3K.

DO EEET.

All of the 3 gun matches I used to shoot, required birdshot.
