A couple years ago I bought a extension cord for my generator.
Fast forward to last week when wanted to use the cord I found out it wont fit.
(Just opened the package, receipt long gone, unable to take back to store)

If you notice that little tab at the arrow is facing out, on my generator it faces in.

So what are my best/easiest options, cut both ends off and replace with correct plugs or is there a adapter of some sort I could get?
ETA: this was packaged/labeled as a generator extension cord.

Looks like you have a 20 amp cord and your genny has a 30 amp receptacle.

Cut it off and go to Home Depot or Lowes and get the right one.

If you lived in Fl. your stuff would have a trail run and be ready.

Fl., home of the preppers.

He needs the heavier cord. The genny cord should be #10 for 30 amps and his is likely only #12 (based upon the kind of plug it has)

He'd likely get by on #12  if he don't run full capacity, but the best thing would be to get the right cord.

Yep its a 4 #12
I don't use multiple high wattage appliances with this cord(table lamp, phone/tablet charging, fridge)
Deep freeze, window AC units/pellet stove go on separate circuits.

You didn't buy it at Walmart, did you? They have an excellent return policy, they'll exchange without receipts most the time.

You might try them too, do you know if you paid with a card or was it cash? I think they can look up the purchase if a card was used and you also have that. I think.. Is the packaging more or less intact?

This would work on the Gen side of the extension but Id need another with the opposite plugs for the other end

Look at the nema code on the plug on the gen you are trying to use.
It's probably glong to be L 14-30, the one in your hand is an L 14-20 (20 amp).
Home depot will stroke you on that plug because it's on RV's and most people buying one are like yourself, not a pro.
Find an electrical supply store, give them the Nema code and save a few bucks.

Be advised that you are limited to 20 amps with that thing (it appears to have a 20 amp breaker installed in it). I'd figure out current draw on everything you intend to use and then decide if it's worth messing with.

Don't even worry about a receipt. Just take it in and tell them that you got the wrong cord and can't find the receipt. Get an in store credit and use the $$$ on the new one.

If you need a 30 amp plug on both ends just buy a new cord. It's not worth messing with anything else.

30 amp cord with 30 amp twist locks. 30 amp generator inlet box/transfer switch/interlock and you are set up correctly.
