LOL. Never noticed that. Movie was not what I had hoped for. Really? I have read the whole cannon several times, of course it was a collage of several different books but I liked it a lot. I'm a big fan of the books, and I thought the movie was great. |

Photographer and/or editor didn't know their subject, it's like what happens on the news everyday. |

My guess is just a between-takes happy snap that was probably never intended to be used the way it later was. |

Can't remember what port we were in in Mexico, but there were 3 tall masted "pirate" ships chugging around the harbor on Diesel engines. Dinner shows. Lots of fun, hugely popular at the touristy ports. Far better food than at most dinner/show type venues in the world. |

I loved the movie....bought a couple of books. I never got into it, I probably need to get the first one to get me started. Which is the first in the series? I would love to see a sequel. |

One thing about the books, they can be very funny at times. The biggest difference, Stephen's character is much more interesting in the books. (He's actually a stone killer and a real badass.) I'm about 3/4's of the way through my second read through. |

I think that Russell Crowe was ideal as Aubrey. The fella who played Maturin, maybe not as much.
Still loved the movie and wish there had been a sequel. But why would anyone make historical fiction adventure movies that almost exclusively feature white men? That's crazy... |

Can't have that in a major motion picture. Jack in the books is fat. Stephen breaks his chops about it. |

The funny thing is they could make sequel for substantially less than the original, for 2 reasons. First, better CGI, and second, a substantial portion of the books are set on land. They could also introduce some eye candy - I'm going with Kate Beckinsale as Mrs. Villiers and Gweneth Paltrow as Sophia. Add Maggie Smith as Jack's mother in law. For color, someone to play Jack's illegitimate son. And there's plenty of action available: Stephen's rescue from the French intelligence services, Bonden's boxing match, various scuffles with bailiffs when Jack was broke, and countless cutting out actions that would be very naval, yet still take place on a docked "ship." I liked it. So few seafaring movies to choose from. There should be more. Agreed. I am fascinated by the age of sail. I find most of the older 40's & 50's seafaring movies to be disappointing in that too much of the plot takes place on dry land...not enough 'at sea' footage. |

Bettany does not look like Maturin is described in the books but he played him well. And they are hard books to read with the 1800's English and grammar as well as the French language the series has a splattering of. One day I'll sit down to re-read the series and look up the words I am unfamiliar with. |

Might be on one of the fan websites. |

I read all the Hornblower series as a kid so I am looking forward to this. |
