I decided to install Debian testing (Jessie), having read on distrowatch.com that it uses kernel version 4.6. After installing, I discovered that it uses 3.16 instead. Is upgrading the kernel a bad idea? I'm not really concerned about immediate problems, even serious ones. I just installed it, and I can start over if necessary. I'm more concerned about unexpected behavior later on. |

Debian, even the unstable version, is very focused on stability and doesn't adopt the newest packages (including the kernel) until they have been well-proven elsewhere.
If you want the latest version of the kernel and other packages, use a more bleeding-edge distro like Fedora |
