Ballpark cost to the homeowner, if you don't mind?

I don't want to run you afoul of perception of business advertising, but I really am interested.

Cool, but what's the point in hiding a safe like that?  Even if it was out in the open it would be a bitch getting into it.  A safe room to me is a hidden room you can actually walk into and hide stuff.

How well does that door swing when it's loaded with a complete set of Encyclopedia Britannica and the Great Books series?

Neat idea and looks good though.

No sweat, I don't want you jammed up over something silly.  I'm across the country, so it was curiosity only.

Actually - very well. The entire thing is reinforced with a welded steel frame, and I used heavy duty ball bearing pivots top and bottom - it can operate with up to 500 pounds and no sag.

Looks nice, but I've never been a big fan of the RFID locks.

I prefer a simpler mechanical design.

That was my thought as well. I'd rather a hidden catch or something then a RFID lock.

So what happens when the power goes out?  Unlocks automatically?  Can't unlock it?  How do you open it if the RFID card is lost or the reader breaks?    Does it use an electromagnet?

It is an industrial electromagnetic system. Same type used in schools, hospitals and banks. It has a built in batter backup system.

So it sounds like you could find it by the magnetic field.   How do you open it it when (not if) the card reader breaks?
