I just got the latest Alpha Outpost subscription box, and I'm rather disappointed in it.  It is full of neat stuff, but not worth the $40 I bought into it.  It is basically filled with cool stuff that is of the quality matching that of the free swag you get at a trade show.

This month's theme is "The Patriot" and contains as follows:
 Two stainless steel shot glasses
 Cheap sunglasses
An "America is the Greatest" pamphlet
 Copy of the constitution
Velcro flag and AO logo patches
A zippo style lighter (not a zippo)
Nalgene type bottle (not a Nalgene)
Square American flag bandana (I would never use it as such, but nice enough to pin to my wall)
 Couple of bumper stickers
Trucker hat with the AO logo.

I'm having decent luck with Battlbox. Less tactical and more bushcraft/survival oriented.

What were you expecting? Company is there to make money, not send you higher end products for no profit after shipping.

No, I wasn't expecting much at all  It just felt weird to have stuff that looks like name brand stuff, but is not.
I don't feel ripped off, and I in no way blame them, or hold any ill will.  It is what it is, and they are who they are.
And I support the idea and entrepreneurship.

God bless America.

Does the lighter seem like it's decent quality? What about the hat and "nalgene" Lol is it at least BPA free?

no.  the lighter is very similar to that of a zippo, but it's not a zippo.  It does look cool though.
The hat is like trucker hat you see in a gas station drug store.
The Nalgene is not BPA free and is of a flexible plastic that smells like styrene.  There are no markings on it indicating where it was made in.

I am not saying that they are being deceitful in using products that look like name brand stuff, nor am I implying counterfeit since it is stamped AO on the items.

I've watched a bunch of unboxing videos for the various types of "tacticool" subscription based boxes and I really can't figure out what makes them worth what people pay.

I don't know how anyone thinks ANY of those "monthly box" subscriptions are going to be a good deal. tactical or not.

but, they're probably the same folks that flock to buy the LAPG mystery bags.

My son gets the Loot Box and even that I can't see buying. But at least with that there's a chance you get a video game.

I think if I was to sign up for one of these types of boxes I'd go Battlbox. That said I think 90% of the fun of it is the surprise of finding out what's in there and maybe discovering a product you hadn't heard of. I accomplish both of those tasks just fine by watching other people open the box on YouTube and I save 100% of the associated cost too!

Yeah, but how much of that stuff is gonna just wind up in a box or on a shelf being clutter?

and you get more of it every month?

This was my first subscription box purchase and I can't foresee myself doing it again.
The "surprise" is part of the fun.  And it is neat stuff.  But if someone were to have put that box in front of me for $40, I wouldn't buy it.

I actually enjoy looking at all the subscription boxes online for ideas, and awareness of products on the market.  But then I can get the select products on my own...or not.

I just got notice that my monthly subscription has been paid and I purchased the next month's box.

I'm pretty upset since I ordered one 1-month subscription, not a 3, 6, or 12 month subscription.  I must be mistaken about how one 1-month subscription means that I have a re-occurring monthly subscription of one box every month.

Oh well, all I can do is laugh, cancel future orders, and have some more interesting stuff to give away to friends.
