I have been to texas and vegas last year with the wife, i might be comint to usa this year on my own while my family go on a sun holiday.
If you had to pick a area to visit where would it be and why.
I like to shoot, train brazilian jiu jitsu and play pool. I dont drink and i will have a hire car.

Sounds like you'd like LA.

Lots of sun and I think that's where Brazillian ju-jujitsu took root here.

If you like guns, uh, can't help you there.

But there are amusement parks, museums if you like that stuff, world class restaurants, etc.  Easy connections from the UK.

You can do that stuff almost anywhere in America.  Need to narrow it down a bit.

NYC isn't really like London. I highly recommend skipping NYC, it's a dump.

Most Americans who go to the UK go to London, even if just for a while. Like NYC, it's one of the greatest cities on earth, despite liberal politics. It's "like" London in that it's huge, diverse, and has some must-see sights.

I'm not sure how flights from the UK to various parts of the US work, but I was thinking that if you were laying over in NYC anyway, it might be nice to spend a night, see Times Square, and catch a Broadway show. Unique experiences. Another world class city worth seeing (at least briefly) is San Francisco, but that's on the other coast. New Orleans is another unique American destination. (So was Vegas).

Now you want beautiful scenery and the outdoors, then places like Yellowstone, and Yosemite are fantastic.

Technically, It's Maryland and anything south of it. But Maryland and much of Virginia don't really feel like the South. The typical south starts at Richmond VA. If you wan't to see history, look at Charleston SC and Savannah GA. As far as gun related stuff goes, the south is the best, plenty of good ranges to choose from. There are also some very good beaches down here. If you want beaches, look at Wrightsville Beach NC, Destin FL, and Hilton Head SC (which is very close to Savannah GA, if you decide to go there.).

If you are doing the tourist thing, Boston or DC are pretty good as far as history goes.  Great museums in DC.  Tons of Revolutionary War/birth of the nation history and awesome chow in Boston.  Hit the beaches on Cape Cod for a day.  Rent a boat and spend a day fishing, etc.

You can likely hit a range in New Hampshire or Virginia.

Virginia.

It has some significance during the Revolutionary War.  I doubt there is anything else around there unless you like gay sailors, cigarettes, and Busch Gardens.

If you like mountains, Colorado, smaller mountains? Ozarks to Smokey Mountains
Grand Canyon, Giant Sequoias, Pacific rainforests, Southern Bayous (great food), Gulf coast etc

Food you have to eat
Mexican at a restaurant ran by Mexicans
Fried catfish
Small town burger joint anywhere
Crawfish
Frog legs
turnip greens

I'm sure others will have more food to add

ETA when you figure out where you're going i'm sure some local members could help you around the area

Billings MT has the pool and shooting covered and is not too far from Yellowstone.  Not sure if the have the BJJ there or not.  It's hot and dry in the summer and frigid in the winter.

Fly in to Salt Lake City. Go north through Idaho, into Montana. On the way, there are Ghost Towns to see (Virginia City for example). Spend a night in Livingston, MT (Murray Hotel). Drive to Red Lodge, MT then go over the Beartooth Pass into Yellowstone. Spend most of your time there. Take a day trip to Cody, WY and see their firearms museum. On your way back to Salt Lake see the Grand Tetons.

How much time do you have?

ETA: As mentioned, there's a good chance you could find a rodeo in that loop.
