My dad's stepfather flew Dauntless dive bombers at both Midway and Coral Sea. Apparently at Midway, he flew off of the Yorktown, but had to land on the Enterprise, as the Yorktown was damaged. He was awarded the Navy Cross for his part in both Coral Sea and Guadalcanal. He returned from two separate missions with his tail gunner shot dead. Unfortunately he passed away in the early 90s before I was old enough to talk to him about his experiences. |
