Yep.  This is why we buy cases for our  phones. $49.99 < $400.

How are android based phones so impervious to screens being broken?

What is it like to drop a phone?? I have never dropped one so not sure what that sound is like.

Screens can be replaced.  Can probably get a new one on Amazon.  All you need is a tiny screwdriver set and some basic mechanical aptitude and you're good to go.

I knocked my wife's Kindle off the kitchen table a while back.

It hit the tile floor face down and make that sound.

I knew before I looked that the screen was busted.

Had an iPhone 4 for four years, I only got a replacement because the software went nuts and there was no repair service. Within the first year of my 5, it broke because the battery was bad.

Sorry man.

My Galaxy S7 Edge went through the washer last week. Not a scratch, and it was spotless coming out.

This, mine ends up bouncing off concrete at least once a week and is still ticking even after three years now.

I swear though, I'm going to cry when I have to replace this thing... It's a Gen 1 Motorola Moto G and it's built like a fucking tank, the Otterbox adds even more durability.

Replacement battery is like 12 dollars on epay. Took me all of 10 minutes to replace it.

I dropped my foreman's phone about 30' the other day. I was using it to take a picture of a nameplate on a 345KV arrestor. I was just looking at the screen and touched the rack that it was on, the static lit me up pretty  good. I didn't drop it that time. About five seconds later I did the same thing , and dropped the phone taking a nice picture of the hydraulic hoses under the boom on my truck. The phone didn't break when it hit the concrete.

I routinely wash my Casio Commando off in the sink.  I did it once in a Wal-Mart bathroom and got the funniest looks from the people in there :-)

They're not. My wife killed hers two months ago. She's broken at least 4 screens on various devices over the years.

Pfft, if you break your screen, replace it.  It's easy as hell.  Heat gun and some plastic spatulas and tiny screwdrivers.  Sometimes need some double sided 3M tape but its easy as hell!  Usually get a screen for $15 to $50 depending on what phone it is.

Buy the right one and it damn near is. My Droid Ultra Mini is running like a champ after 3 years of abuse. Maybe a scratch on the screen if that. No case from day one. Buy a well made product and it won't break. JS

When I was fixing those damned things..
Some had a weak spot in all the glass near the power button, you could spider web the things with a finger. But the main face of it was damned near bullet proof.  Broke a machinist scribe trying to stab through one.

Samsungs were the brawny bastards, took tons of abuse. Yes we inflicted damage on purpose to see how much it took to damage them beyond repair, some took monster amount of inflicted damage to render then unable to power on.  Others would fall apart if you looked at them funny.

My work phone;  it cannot be destroyed.

In unlikely event of destruction,  I bought every one I could from Radio Shack at $18 a copy.

I have that same phone.  You can't kill it.  I've gotten mine wet, dropped it on concrete, skidded it across the pavement, etc.

I, too, am not looking forward to replacing it when it eventually dies.

Even before I put a case and screen protector on it, the screen never had a scratch.  Gorilla glass FTW!
