Is one of my guilty pleasures in life.  I don't know why I like that show so much.

Has anyone here ever eaten at any of the restaurants featured in the show BEFORE chef Gordon came to their rescue?

Tell us, was the food and service as bad as the TV show portrays?

It was a guilty pleasure of mine. I got bored with it. Every episode has a formulaic structure, and predictable outcome.

I wish it was produced and edited differently.

I can agree with that.

Episodes like Amy Baking Company and Sebastian's Pizza are awesome to watch though.

The original UK series is much better. It's actually a cooking show where Gordon teaches the chef how to cook and manage a restaurant. Much more interesting.

No idiotic, formulaic, manufactured reality TV show drama like the US version.

In the UK version he is much less abrasive towards the targets.

Yeah, the US Version should really just be called "Gordon Ramsay Thinks You Suck".

That said, the one on Amy's Baking Company was hilarious.

Robert Irvine/Restaurant Impossible did one near us   They found dead rats under the booth benches.   We used to eat there all the time, too.

There did a beautiful job renovating the dining room and revamping the menus but it went out of business anyway.   It was failing for a reason.

Of course, his targets in UK show are *usually* not quite as bone stupid as the American counterparts.

Amy's Baking clusterfuck was the best episode ever - we had a member local to the location showing up there daily and he posted photos of the door. They had 'unexpected closures' until finally going tits-up.

Most figured it was a money laundering front from the husband.

It's a formula show, the same thing over and over again.

All that changed were the faces and locations.

Sorta interesting for the 1st 4 or 5 episodes, then just boring.

Many of these I imagine is just poor management that run them into the ground.

Looking at him, her and the "restaurant", that was the only logical conclusion I could come up with.

The only thing that show does for me is to make me never want to eat at a mom and pop establishment again.  Obviously, they are all filthy.

Agreed--- I was impressed at how professional Gordon Ramsey was with European and other international chefs versus those on "Kitchen Nightmares."   In one episode, he helped a young and very talented chef refine his menu.   Very cool to watch.

There is definitely a psychological aspect to the running of a restaurant. If the owner(s) are of sound mind and body, the restaurant seems to do well and have a much better chance of rehabilitating and maybe even staying that way.

Somehow a local place that Bar Rescue did is still open two years later.

I've been in a lot of kitchens. Normally the mom and pop shops are cleanest and I'd attribute it toward pride of ownership. Their business is an extension of their life and they have pride in that.

Check out an Olive Garden or Red Lobster.

Surprising that so many places went under after being revamped by GR. He's usually considered as having the Midas touch on anything cooking. I know 2 cooks who have done stages in GR restaurants, and they say it was a huge boost to their career. Both consider it a golden ticket and feel lucky to have gotten the opportunity.

Just as police can't fix 15 years of bad parenting during a 5 minute service call, Gordon can't fix the fundamental problems that the owners themselves have in five days.

Sure, some will be exceptions to the rule and will take the kick in the ass to improve themselves but most will slide back into their bad habits.
