No sweat.  I was just being an ass.  My specialty.

What is your use of the rifle?  Bench shooting?  Steel plates and other plinking? 3 gun?  Self defense?  Hunting?  SHTF?  That drives the choice a bit.

true, however, your logic is flawed because this is not an option in the poll

The ACOGs are so fine, I don't think that can be beat inside 100 yards.  Maybe even 200 yards.

30mm vs 20mm tube...I pick up the PRO faster.  I also like the built in flip up caps (one of which you don't have to use) on the pro.  Both are great quality but it's just preference for me.  If weights a concern H1 wins.  I'd like to try an ACOG but the cost keeps me out of that game.

It's my only AR but it doesn't have to be.

If I had to choose one AR and one optic it'd probably something capable of a little magnification like my old Millet DM.

No such animal.  A variable 1-6x would be close, but a compromise for some of those activities.

Iron sights work for everything if you are so inclined, so that means an RDS will as well.  Of the RDS choices, I'd go AimPoint.

Since you aren't narrowing down usage scenario and don't have a 1-6x on the list, I'd vote ACOG, but for that money, I'd rather have this unless I was headed to a combat zone:

Vortex Razor HD Gen II 1-6x24

Then I would get the Razor.  Fantastic FOV, eye relief, eye box, brightness, illumination, and clarity.  Incredibly versatile.

But it's not in the poll, so ACOG.  Bonus points - it's a lot lighter than the Razor.

I have a Vortex Spitfire 3x.  I really like it.  To me, its like a poor man's ACOG.  Plus, it's a prism scope with an etched reticle.  No issues with astigmatism and the reticle is there, albeit dark, even with no battery power.  I paid less than $250.

If I ever had to sell all my guns but one I'd keep my lightweight AR with an ACOG.  I'd sell every variable and red dot equipped rifle I had first.

[#35]

For roughly $100 more than the ACOG you could have a 1x4x24 Nightforce NXS.

I just put a Aimpoint PRO and Vortec VMX 3T on an AR.  My H1 is on a Browning Buckmark.

5/20/2016 8:49:13 AM EDT

Rather have an Aimpoint PRO then the H1, and I wouldn't want a fixed magnified optic at all.

I have several different optics. ACOGs, Vortex Strike Eagle, etc.. To many to name. My all-time favorite optic to date is my Delta Point Pro. Obviously there are different optics for different applications, but, I just love that little red-dot.

preciate the feedback y'all, ACOG is prohibitively expensive, but definitely my 1st choice.....not a fan of the vortex sparc 2 looks-wise, but what little i can find on it seems positive as far as durability & battery life ..very likely will end up with the H1 in a larue mount, just hoping to read some opinions from folks who have tried these or similar optics...the AR in question is definitely a "if you could only have 1 rifle" setup, surely most will agree there are better tools for CQB & LR than a 16" AR
5/20/2016 4:11:45 PM EDT
[#41]
An H1 in a Larue mount isn't far off from a used ACOG.  Just saying.
