It's weird thinking that it's been that long since Ford dropped the Modular engines and started putting turbo V6s in their trucks, but here we are.

Considering the volume sold, 5 years should be enough time to get a good idea of how this newer generation of drive trains holds up.

How are these trucks performing long term?

My 2012 5.0 is still chugging along. The engine ticks a little at idle, but it's done that since it was new.

If I had it to do over again, the only thing I'd do differently is get the 4x4 model.

2014 F150 here with a 5.0 in it, I've owned a lot of trucks and this one takes the cake. Great motor. My buddy has the 3.5 ecoboost and has not had any issues whatsoever.

Why?

Some people feel it is necessary to get a new vehicle every 2 years.

From a mechanical standpoint, the Tundra seems to be the most simple option on the market. But the Tundra has a small slice of market share, and used examples are retarded expensive. Also, the Tundra is an impressively ugly vehicle...

Had my 8th oil change today. Been 45,000 great miles. 2014 F150 5.0. I have had new cars before but this was my first brand new truck I hope it lives a long life cuz these things are expensive.

'14 STX 5.0, engine is bulletproof and problem free, although it only has 9.5k miles because I drive 3 miles to work and back or use my motorcycle.

Only two problems I can think of are non-engine related:
1. 3rd brake light leaks
2. windshield wipers are not smooth at all and stutter so much that I can feel it in cab. I've replaced the wipers twice and I've done every trick in the Google-book to smooth them out with no luck.

My 2014 F150 work truck just turned 50K miles. Not the Ecoboost or 5.0L V8, but the 3.7L V6. I think it's basically the same V6 as the EB, but without the turbos. Engine is strong naturally aspirated, but my transmission does have this weird moaning groaning sound every once in awhile. Being a work truck I don't give a shit about the sound, but on my personal vehicle I'd want it fixed. It happens enough to cause concern.

We are yanking around a 14ft enclosed trailer full of tools around town for at least a week in a rented 2016 ecoboost. I'll let you know if it survives. It pulls it just fine going 80 down the highway, ass end bounces around a little more than I like so far.

I know someone who purchased the Ecoboost F150 when they first came out and ended up getting it bought back under the lemon law due to loss of power.  I believe Ford has since fixed that issue and it had something to do with the intercooler in environments with high humidity.

This is a problem on lots of trucks of various makes.

It is one of those "if we can put a man on the moon" things that would make me rage fire people if I were a CEO.

Same bore spacing and deck height as the 4.6 with some strengthening of the block, increased bore and stroke. Basically the same engine with improvements..

So a stronger block, bigger bore, and improvements....

My ranch hand has over 120k miles on his 2012 F-150 4x4 with Ecoboost.  Only issue he's had is two dead windshield wiper motors.  And he abuses the hell out of that truck around the ranch.  Tows a 25' Airstream all over the country a couple times a year with no issues.

I am selling my 2013 FX4 Ecoboost after 111K of trouble free service and replaced it with a 2016 FX4 Ecoboost which is at 3200 miles already.

Granted they are fairly easy lives(no pulling etc) but Im sold on them. Very quick and my new one is averaging 19mpg with interstate speeds mixed in heavy.

My brother is a Master ASE mechanic and last I knew he wasn't impressed given the number of them he has to work on for various issues related to the system as a whole but I would need to ask him for more details.

From what I remember it was summed up by saying if you want to use it as a light duty pickup then it will be fine but don't try to make it a workhorse by using it when you should have purchased a 3/4 ton truck instead.

2012 FX4 5.0.  Wife's truck and currently at 88,000 miles.  Pulls our two horse trailer often and strong.

Had the water pump replaced at around 75,000.  Not sure what happened, but had a smallish puddle of coolant on the garage floor one day and no heat when she drove it in to work. Temp guage, per her, was at the normal spot. Took it straight to the dealer.  Replaced under warranty. Figured we were almost due for a coolant flush anyway.

plugs blowing out was the pre 2004 5.4L Triton

cam phaser and broken plug issue was the 2004 - 2008 5.4L Triton (and my 2004 5.4L Triton has 149K miles on it.  No issue with Cam phasers, timing chain adjusters though I did break one plug changing them at 90K miles.  No big deal with the proper tool to remove the broken bit.)

Now my 2016 5.0 has around 600 miles on it
