TL;DR - Australian state government passes laws prohibiting protesting of development and allowing for warrant-less search, seizure, and detainment (up to 14 days). City governments begin opposing development due to constituent opposition. State government sacks 43 city councils and mayors and replaces them with administrators appointed by the state. Cities happen to be along path of transportation development. I bet they're glad they don't have any guns down under. The state government, that is. |

2 weeks in jail with no warrant or cause? Maybe fo time comes to Australia.... Lol not a chance. Too bad. They speak English there, and the climate is nice. If they went full-on free-market laissez-faire capitalism with a decent constitution that protected civil liberties they'd have to reinforce the island to keep it from sinking under the weight of all of the money that would move there. |

I've said it for years, coming soon to America. "These measures are necessary to fight crime and terrorism, if we are to continue to move forward." Not a whisper of dissent here when new cameras are added on the streets, or when IMSI-catchers/Stingrays started showing up. Peep on the news and that was it. I guess when cops are super polite and you can smoke weed in your backyard without the worry of law enforcement it doesn't feel like a police state. Even when a guy that did aboriginal prank calls got arrested nobody cared. The small tit porn ban ruffled some feathers, as did their internet censorship filter that was defeated by a kid. So maybe not all hope is lost, but it's getting there. A vast majority actually believe had it not been for the gun ban there'd be mass shootings everywhere. |

I moved here in late 08 early 09, when some people still thought Obamacare was going to be awesome. I told them about Australia's healthcare, how the gov't running it, and it being "free" would be a massive fuckup and cost the wrong people way too much money. It was ignored. I could already see that where Aus is now, is where America will be in 15 years unless something massive happens. The people here are great, there's neat shit to do, but I hate it here. I'm not free, I'm taxed to hell and back and everything is strictly controlled. The place that worshiped Ned Kelly now regulates pellet guns and paintball guns same as firearms. And most everyone is more than okay with it. No matter what the problem is, people look to the government for a solution. The spirit that made this place great is all but dead cept in a few spots in the outback. The odd thing is, a shitload of people stashed away their "good" guns and only turned in shit. What good is it if you'll never have the guts, or the support to do anything with it? |

Australian citizens are the most vocal anti-gun activists on the planet. No comparison.
Any Youtube/facebook entity regarding guns will surely have at least 1 Aussie saying guns should be banned and confiscated, or even the owners imprisoned. They fully deserve anything that happens to them and it will put a smile on my face when it does. |

I should be a warning to Americans. Gov't ran healthcare, high minimum wage, nanny state, all things they have already happened here, and are starting to happen there. Progressive's plans here were a success, so laugh at Aus now, you might be in their shoes in a decade. The gov't convinced people guns were bad in the name of health and safety, which is exactly the approach being used in the states. |

Australia never had a multigenerational gun culture like the U.S. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile And that second amendment has done what to stop the SAFE act? No gun culture like the U.S.? In what way? 30 years ago people were shooting possums in their suburban backyards with .22s. I've met former competitive shooters that shot daily, one of which was using a mill and lathe to build his own bolt actions in the garage. Bury your head in the sand, I don't give a shit. You now have gov't ran healthcare, and a movement to raise the minimum wage to a unbelievable level. All things that "would never ever happen in America". How'd the supreme court do with that unconstitutional Obamacare anyway? They strike it down? No? Oh. Tell me again how the 2nd amendment isn't in danger. |
