My Windows 7 ran like a Swiss watch. No issues what so ever until Microsoft started downloading Win10 spam in my computer. After all the talk of how great it was I tried it out and it ended up being slow and screwing up my computer big time. I went back to 7, but the damage from Microsoft was already done and my computer has run like shit ever since.
Unfortunately I have to upgrade and build a new computer soon since this one is slow as hell right now due to the above. I'm not looking forward to being forced to use Windows 10 at all. From what I've read it will be some work to get rid of the unneeded crap in there as well as downloading a few programs to keep it that way. Oh, and in before I'm wrong and don't know anything about anything and Windows 10 is the best OS ever. |
|
My home PC started life as a Vista machine right before 7 came out. Been thru all the updated versions now and without a doubt, 10 is the best. Boot time on start up and loading any drive is 100% faster.
Better at update management and user interface too. As of today, I highly recommend it! |

It's a great OS. I just updated to the latest Insider Preview build just so I could fire up the WSL/Ubuntu Bash shell to finally have that tool set in the OS instead of via a VM, container, dual boot, etc. How truly useful it is remains to be seen but it was weird just having it fired up and running it through the ringer to get a feel for the extent of the functionality.
Back on topic, I remain utterly mystified as to the Windows 10 torch and pitchfork crowd. I have no idea why it presents such a challenge to some. There's always going to be some damned driver, for some damned printer or device, and some legacy program (sometimes all three) that has trouble with a new or updated OS. That's just the nature of computer technology in general. It's nearly always fixable and in the worst case presents a motivator to upgrade or find a better solution. If you can't or won't do so, revert or stay on your legacy OS. It's just not a big enough deal to warrant the foaming-at-the-mouth anti-10 evangelism I've watched with some amusement around here. |

Has anyone stuck with it or reverted back to other versions of Windows? Reverted back to not using Windows. It's alright. I preferred Windows 8 but updated when I was told it would fix my GPU driver issues. It didn't but W10 was OK. In the end I didn't have a need for it so I removed it. |

It's not like it's damaged the hardware.
I swear people that don't know how to re-image are responsible for the bulk of domestic PC purchases. |

Quoted: Google "windows 10 spyware" and find your way to many lists of how to disable the "telemetry" tracking and other nonsense built into Win10. Then enjoy faster boot times and other improvements to Windoze. Just bought my wife a new laptop for mother's day. I'll be spending some time figuring out how to clean all that crap off of it. |

So far I like it. Boots faster, easier to navigate, etc. Yea, I was really surprised that I like the navigation on 10 better than 7 and for sure better than 8 or 8.1. Those last two I had two use Classic Shell with. If Win 8 had came out with the user interface that Win 10 did, instead of Microsoft's attitude of "Fuck you, you'll do it our way" Win 8 would have been a great operating system. There's no comparison between the startup and shutdown times of Win 7 and Win 10. |

Yep, I had a co-worker one time tell me he was buying a new computer because his was running slower. I asked him why not just reload his computer, and he just got this kind of deer in the headlights look in his eyes and insisted that he needed a new computer.
His money I guess. |

I upgraded to W10 from W8.1, I had no problems with W8.1 and I love W10 even more (I did turn off all the 'spyware' though, including Cortana). I still have a computer that runs W7 because it's not hardware compatible with W10, I have no problems with W7 but I don't really like using it anymore since imo W10 is so much better. I also have one offline computer that runs XP and it's a rare day that I even turn that one on anymore. For my main computer, the two best things that I've ever done was to install a SSD for the OS and upgrading the OS to W10. YMMV |
|
Only problem I've had is trying to find all the hidden "power saver" settings that kept turning off my keyboard while I was typing or playing video games.
I mean, the same setting has to be turned off in three or four different places, just to tell Windows, "hey, don't turn off the keyboard while I'm actually typing." |
| A couple of months ago, my wife accidently allowed Windows 10 to update on her PC. After about a month, she wanted to revert. Once the smoke cleared, it reverted-back to the day it came from the factory. Lost all data. She had backups, but it was a real pain in the ass to reload all programs. I've wondered in the next Microsoft step in the "voluntary" upgrade process will be to slowly degrade the Windows 7 functionality. |

Sounds like instead of reverting you did a factory restore, two different things. |
