You guys always seem to be able to help, so I figured I would ask this here.
I know very little about refrigerators. I just moved to a new apartment complex. When the compressor on the fridge kicks in, the buzzing/humming is considerably loud. After a couple minutes it slowly gets quieter and quieter until it gets to the normal hum (or what I assume to be normal). I don't remember it being this loud with past refrigerators I have had, but my living room was never this close to it. The loudest noise is coming from the back of the top where the freezer is. Is this normal? (for the noise to start louder then get more quiet?) It's measuring about 55 DB at it's loudest. thanks so much! |

Not sure about compressor and merely an off topic W.A.G. But make sure your coils are free of dust and clean! Our fridge was working part time and I was afraid we'd have to buy a new one. Pulled it out from wall and discovered coils were CAKED in dust. At least 5 years worth. Talking thick.
Cleaned em off well and fridge is still rockin. |

The coils aren't exposed on the back of this fridge. There is a tamper proof covering. And since I have a lease here, I really don't want to mess with it. I will probably talk to maintenance, but I usually have to re-do everything they try to fix anyway. There was some dust back there. I vacuumed it up. |
