| I have a laptop with Windows X, and I hate this operating system. I have a Windows XP Pro disc which I think will still load. Will the XP Pro load over and delete the Windows X operating system?? |

I wish I were joking but I'm not. I drove a fresh install of XP around the internet for several hours once intentionally trying to pick up viruses and could not.

Install an OS that's been out of support for two years? Brilliant!
It doesn't matter anyway. He's not going successfully install it because there's not gong to be drivers. It was hard enough to get XP installed on Vista machines five years ago because of driver problems. |

I resisted Win 10 for almost a year, except on a backup laptop I played with a little last year. I decided a week ago to go for it and have put on four computers, now. The one last last night is a 2008 vintage low end laptop that came with Vista and was running Win 7. It works fine, too.
I've done a Win 8.1, 8 and two Win 7s. The Win 8 laptop was the first and was a disaster when I tried to do an upgrade. I then wiped it and did a clean install, and did a clean install on the other three. With the clean installs everything went flawlessly and it found and installed every single driver on four totally different machines. After using it a little I think I like it better than 7 and I don't need Classic Shell like I did with 8 and 8.1. Once I deleted and uninstalled Microsoft's crap on the little start menu tiles, I put some of my most used things on them and that's real handy. It's also faster than Win 7, shuts down and starts up a LOT faster than Win 7 and takes up a good bit less drive space. |
