One of my favorite 80s movies.

Who doesn't want to see Alice Cooper impale a dude with a bicycle front fork???

That movie gives me the heebie jeebies to this day. It is something with how it is shot, combined with the music and the lighting... It is just... Unsettling.

Particularly the 'future dream transmission' scenes.

Fucking great flick. John Carpenter never fails to deliver. I'd want a remake but they'd fuck it up. The music was insane and the scenes from the future were hair raising.

Great movie.  His ability to build dread and suspense were never on finer display.

I'm still haunted by certain images from the movie.

Like when the female scientist pushes the possessed chick through the mirror and gets trapped on the other side.  You just see the scientist floating in darkness, the square of light from the mirror illuminating her face and outstretched hand, and the light flickering and then out, with nothing but a black screen.  Chilling.

The whole thing was full of great filmmaking.

I watched the keep recently and would not have understood it except for the Wikipedia article.  It had some great scenes and music.... but the edit was lacking.

Carpenter is one of the few vertically integrated film makers who is worth a shit.

How many other mythical directors that hollywood loves to knob gobble write, direct, produce, make the music for and occasionally act in their own movies? Folks love to lump him in with schlockmeisters like Roger Corman but Carpenter was ahead of his time... the only thing that limited his imagination were his budgets.

Carpenter was so spotty it isn't even funny... but Prince of Darkness was awesome.

The Dream transmissions and the swirling green thing were genuinely disturbing. I need to rewatch it.

I loved The Thing and Big Trouble but was unimpressed with most of his other stuff, I always thought they fell in the "B Movie," schlock category.  Never been a real horror flick fan, though.

I did like Alice Cooper though.
