Is this ginger beer? is this something else...

Is it any good?

I don't drink very often I get a six pack of beer maybe once every 6-12 months and it will last me a month or so.

I am not a beer sob but have not been a fan of "Malt flavored beverages" since I was a teenager.

Is this Alcoholic root beer just a flavored malt beverage? Is it something else?

Is it a waste of money.

I like IPA's, stout's, shandy's, lager's, you know beer, but mostly drink whatever catches my eye by way of advertising. I am a sucker for advertising.

It doesn't really taste like root beer, but it makes one hell of an alcoholic rootbeer float.

I love beer.

I love Root Beer....

The two should never be combined....it tastes like shit.

The most disgusting drink I've ever tasted, truly horrendous.

Its gross, too sweet or overly spiced.  YMMV.

I've tried two types over the past few months.

Not your fathers is the only option so far

This gentleman is correct.

They taste just like a root beer.  They are a little to sweet for me to drink more than one in a row.  It has a lot of sugar in it.

It was all the rage last summer.

"Not Your Father's Root Beer" was hard to find.

Turns out it kinda sucks; too sweet and meant for immature palates that don't appreciate good booze.

Tastes like...

A root beer

With a shot of Vodka

With 87 packets of fucking sweet-n-low

Fucking sucks.

It was an interesting idea.

But it is too damn sweet.

I'm with the majority here...meh.

Tried the "Not your fathers root beer".  Tasted like root beer, with everclear,  but I had the urge to throw up afterwards.

Not Your Father's is pretty good once in a while. You'll be more satisfied with a beer you know you like.

Alcoholic ginger beer is better than alcoholic root beer by a damn sight. Crabbies is what I go for in ginger beer.

So good for root beer floats...but crappy otherwise..

Glad I did not buy any I might try some later but I do not like "sweet" or "sugary" alcoholic drinks.

I've had a few stouts that I think would make a phenomenal float, I'd rather do that than this alcoholic root beer stuff. Every one I've had has been too sweet on the front with a nasty back.

I had "not your father's" and it was gross. I'm eager to try the others in hopes they taste like the true root beer....A&W!

Way to sweet for me.  Ill take root beer and add vodka and its way better.

If you want good "hard root beer".

Best damn root beer

Abita: bayou bootleggers

Those are my go to if I'm feeling "alcoholic" root beer

They need to be consumed extremely cold. Once they start to warm up at all, it's terrible.

This right here. The root beer is too sweet. The crabbies I tried was spicy and good. I'm more of a straight whiskey guy though.

I don't like beer. An alcoholic root beer was offered so I gave it a try because she said it was good. It tasted *exactly* like root beer to me. I don't recall what brand it was.

I really liked Not Your Father's Root Beer served in a frosted mug. It tastes like root beer. But it is sweet and will fill you up like regular root beer. I've read some people drop a shot of vanilla vodka in it for a root beer float taste.

Try Coney Island Hard Root Beer. Its better than NYFRB. Has less of a fake, artificial syrupy taste to it. I'll have to try out some of the other ones mentioned here as well. So far Coney Island is my favorite.

Tried not your father's root beer and liked it initially; after drinking it more I find it too be too sweet.

I also tried Coney Island Root Beer and didn't like it.

More recent on I tried is Best Damn Root Beer and so far it is the best, not as sweet as Not your Fathers.

I brought some over to my boss's house for the Superbowl.  They weren't bad, but I am not much of a drinker.  My other boss loves girly drinks and liked them, so I joked with him that we found something he likes that we won't make fun of him about.

My impression is that if you like beer then you are probably going to hate them, but if you are not much of a beer drinker then you might like them.

Ive had Not Your Fathers Root Beer and ginger beer. They are ok. I'd like to try some other ones but they cost too much. $10 for a six pack of that shit? LOL.

Bought a six-pack ($11.99) was able to choke down one. Couldn't give away the other 5. Ended up throwing them away. Don't waste your money like I did.

Very few people like more than one of the larger styles on the market. Row Hard root beer was the first on the scene here locally but was too thick and had consistency issues so they are hardly ever even seen anymore. Not Your Father's outsells Coney Island about 4 to 1 and Best Damn doesn't even have enough followers to bother carrying it.

They all suffer tremendously when not served ice cold.
4/11/2016 7:01:27 PM EDT
[#43]
They all are made for 17-24 year-old females who like getting drunk, but do not like the taste of beer yet are too self conscious to buy Boons Farm and do not know enough to buy a bottle of good wine.

This shit is pig-disgusting:

If you took 5 year old flat A&W root beer, gave a mummy an enema with it, and threw in a tablespoon of horse smegma--it would literally taste better than that fucking shit.

I tried a bottle the other week. The first sip was "wow, ok, this is pretty cool."  The more I drank, the more I became aware of a weird aftertaste, and the sides of my tongue started tingling. Only made it through half the bottle.

A buddy of mine in HS, his father brewed 15% root beer (among other things). Yummy yummy yummy.

ETA: He called it 15%, it may have been closer to 12%. Who cares?

Never heard of alcoholic ginger beer. . and I've been drinking "Dark & Stormy"'s for years . . . are you guys sure it's alcoholic--or just assumed that it was because it said "beer"?
