Has anyone actually received a job offer or inquiry because you had your info on LinkedIn ?
Can it really help...I get random networking requests from people.

I get quite a few solicitations from headhunters. A bit of that, but also at least a dozen random sales calls a week. It appears they look up my company name and then access my extension from our automated directory so that can ask for "5 minutes of time on your calendar". Multiply that by all the companies doing that and it gets rather annoying. |
I have gotten a few good leads when other companies looked me up based on skill sets and a well-written summary of how awesome I am at my job.
It's always better to have a hiring manager, or better yet, a manager from the department you'd be working for hit you up instead of a third party headhunter. |

I have had people (2nd or 3rd degree types) contact me about opportunities due to mutual connections.
Of course I still get solicitations from recruiters, and random connect requests from people I don't know. I have also used it search for people within my own network. Overall, I think it's a useful tool amongst many. And as with most things in life, you'll get more out of it if you put some effort into it. |
|
-Have a professional headshot, not some crappy screenshot crop.
-Research the keywords recruiters use for the job you want. Google's Contextual Targeting tool is helpful. Insert keywords in profile. -Include samples, images and videos of your work. (Ensure they look professional) -Leave quality and non-generic recommendations for others. They will return the favor. -I schedule 20 minutes a week to use the site. Simply set a timer and work. The results have been impactful. |

Linkedin is the only social media presence that I have. I have only my name, the name of my business out there and zero other info. I use it as a FB analog to find old buddies, that's it.
I have no idea whether anyone is hired off of Linkedin as in my line of work it's all pretty much word of mouth. |

I have LinkedIn to thank in large part for the last huge raise I received ![]() AGREED.. my largest jump in salary came from moving to a company that "found me through linkedin". I was working with a good friend when I made the move, but the company was filled with execs fucking the lower level female employees and I just cant work with someone I have no respect for.. |

Serious actual offers or come see us...or HR jerking themselves off justifying their existence ? Quoted:

| Yes, but mainly from head hunters. LinkedIn can be a genuine way to network and stay in business contact with people. The problem is, lately more people are beginning to treat it like Facebook and it seems that LinkedIn has little interest in flushing those people and that content from the sight. There are plenty of people who build and maintain solids networks through it and others who just want to have a network of 5000 people, just like their Facebook page. |

Sounds like you should have negotiated an Exec level position from the jump

I get several networking requests. Example "do you know anyone with SQL skills?"
Lately I have received tons of "are you looking" inquiries. I've done quite a few "first glance" investments of my time into some of the inquiries. I've had a decent amount of first and second phone interviews. I've pursued a few of those and done some on site/in person interviews. I've received a couple of offers or "what will it take" inquiries as a result of the interviews (I turned them all down, I was pricing my market value). But, I recently accepted an offer from a company (15% pay increase over current, better bonus structure, much better benefits and stock options) that aggressively pursued me after a Gartner Analyst told them, "For what it is you want in a candidate, Procyon is the person you want in the role." So, not what you know, but who you know? |

They have deliberately tried to be the next Facebook. They are actively encouraging that stuff. Quoted:

I think it will be their end, the majority of users and people actually using it to conduct business and share information do not want that stuff. |
