I hate snakes. Like Indiana Jones level hate snakes.

But I try not to be a little girl about it. I just found this tiny thing in my garage. Looks to me like the round head non-venomous variety, but the markings also look kind of copperhead-ish. If it's going to grow up into something that will try to eat me, I want to know. Convince me he'll be harmless when full grown and I'll let him live.

That looks like a little river snake. It is absolutely 100% not a copperhead.

Baby bull snake?

Definitely not venemous.

those eyes are not indicative of a venomous snake. I'd let it go.

Bull snake/ King snake. Deadly to rats and other snakes. Harmless to people.

Looks like a northern water snake to me.

I caught a baby copperhead in my garage.  Even though he was only about 8" long he was shaped like an adult.

Your pic is not a copperhead.

Look at those sweet little eyes.  I used to get those copperhead look a likes all the time in VA.  The head shape and the round eyes are give-aways that it is non-venomous.

I am going to say corn snake, but that is just a guess.

Unless, of course, he's back in my garage. If he's non-venomous, I'll let him live, but not in my garage!

Well what would you do if a giant snake caught you, put you in a tub, took pictures of you and asked ARFCOM whether you should live or die?

He'll grow up to be less harmful to the environment than you will.

Looks like a pet snake.   Go to the pet store and get him a mouse or two for scaring him.

Once he's done eating, let him go, or get a nice heat lamp while at the pet store so he's happy.

In that case, yes, that is a very poisonous snake.  They are also illusive and extremely territorial.  They are also known to drop down from above, and often coil around electrical wiring.  The local snake wranglers charge double for that variety, and a 40+ year veteran refused my last call to help take care of one.  Make no mistake, you are in grave danger.

Send the little fella up north and I'll look after it.

Pet stores usually carry them.

ETA:  If he's loose in your garage he'll kill any mice in there.
Snak bites don't hurt... much. They have delicate little needle-like teeth. If you're bit, don't pull away until it releases you. Otherwise you might pull his teeth out, in your hand.

Once it clears out all the pests in your garage, it will move on.  Be thankful.
