Been replacing some old ass canned lights that let a shit ton of cold air in with LED ones. Replaced 8 so far. LED only uses 13.5w (800 Lumens) and has a lifespan of 45 years with a yearly cost of $1.87/yr.
Box of 2 are $25.00 but they fit real tight and stop the cold air too. |

Switched most of my bulbs to led and have been happy. The only exceptions are the fluorescent tubes in the basement and some candelabra bulbs in a chandelier. I did get some humming with mine when I installed a dimmer switch. I wanted to dim lights in the dining room but ended up staying with a standard switch.

I have a Cree led in nearly every light in my house. Those are great. I have them in any commonly used or hard to get to lamp. I also put in a cheap ass Commercial Electric flushmount lamp in one room- amazing output. I then replaced my shop lights with LED fixtures from Sam's Club- awesome coverage. I'm sold on them. I tried the compact fluorescent when those were all the craze but most weren't worth a damn. |

The 5 year warranty was what really drew me to the Cree bulbs. |

Just put LED tubes in one of my fluorescent fixtures in the garage, bright and instant on. I'd like to do this, but many of our ballasts are starting to die in those fixtures. Replace ballasts and convert to LED bulbs, change ballasts and continue with flourescents, or change fixtures entirely? |

I switched out virtually every bulb in the house with the exception of the fluorescents in my garage and laundry room. My Master bath has 10 globe bulbs in it and replaced them out with LEDs. I went from using 400 watts to 100
Home Depot recently lowered their pricing on Cree 60 watt bulbs and I bought a bunch from Costco as well as the candalabra size. PECO Electric was providing rebates so they were fairly inexpensive. |

Did you see a difference in your electric bill? If you do have any savings don't expect it to last forever. Electric utilities have lobbied for rate increases due to decreased usage because of customers switching to LEDs. You'll save money for a little while, but, in a few years you'll get whacked with a rate increase and you're back to where you are now. |
It's not cheap to switch over. We've gone mostly CFL, and I don't relish another transition. I did put 4 LED bulbs in the ceiling fan over the pool table. They seem to work ok. My game hasn't improved, but I can see my missed shots much better. ![]() Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
Changed 6 poorly performing four bulb fluorescents in one of the garages with 4000 lumen LEDs. Excellent light at 240 watts vs 960. Replaced all the regular 60 watt bulbs and all the 65 watt can light bulbs inside and out with 8 watt led replacements . Larger can lights next, then on to all the oddball misc. GU base hallway bulbs, ceiling fan lights, small lamps, spots, patio, driveways and other garage/workshop fluorescents. Must be 200 bulbs around here....
Recently upgraded the house a/c system , ductwork and attic insulation along with replacing all the windows in the house. Looking forward to some lower electric bills as summer rolls in. |

I love them.
Do NOT buy the Polaroid Brand LED Bulbs, they are cheap for a reason! I got a 3 pack and all 3 failed within 2 months, one of them had the base go boom and crack open. I've had great luck with Sylvania and the lower cost CREE ones in the same locations. |
| Just sat down on the couch after replacing all 6 of my can lights in the kitchen with the LED retrofit cans. Very happy with the difference! Have been replacing all the bulbs with LED as they go out sense I brought the place 6 months back. The kitchen has been the biggest improvement so far. |

If you're going to go with dimmable LED's, it's best to spring for a dimmer that is rated and specifies LED/Fluorescent dimming. The other ones may work but are unpredictable and not recommended. Hmmm.........maybe I should look into this. I have 4 retrofit led canned lights in my bedroom on a dimmer switch. 2 of the 4 work perfect the other two dim and flicker at times. |

Switched to Sylvanias 5000k 60w equivalents in the whole house. Didn't notice much change in the electric bill, we leave the lights on more though. ![]() Were you using CFL bulbs before? According to my Kill A Watt Meter (and some adapters), the LED bulbs draw about 1-2 watts more than CFL bulbs of the same equivalent wattage. (14W vs 17W) The light is bright instantly, even when it is below zero out, which is why I love LED especially for my porch light. The CFL bulb would turn candle bright in very cold weather, while the LED was normal brightness. |
