My sister came over today with my little nice and she said she was hungry so I said
I'll cook you a hamburger. I didn't have any hamburger buns so I used sliced bread. My niece looked at me like I had two heads when I placed it in front of her. What's up with that ...I eat hamburgers on sliced bread all the time. |

Nothing, other than the toppings can leak through the bread to the surface. The cooked surface of the bun keeps the ketchup/mustard in.

I guess you never saw that Eddie Murphy skit.
"We got MacDonalds, we got Macdonalds!" I got beat. |
|
I've done it in a pinch. I prefer to toast it first, so it has a little more backbone.
|
|
To thin. gets soggy. fingers break through and bun slips off.
|

Sliced untoasted whitebread gross.
A nice thick slice of sprouted grain or ryebread toasted or buttered and cooked kinda like grjlled cheese and we're talkin |
|
On toast is cool. Plain sandwich bread is bullshit. Give your niece a high five for calling you out.

|
|
Did you at least toast it? On toast it's fine, plain light bread gets soggy and nasty though.

The bread. Maybe she knows the benefits of the Atkins and Paleo diet?

round patty, square bun, so you have some bun without da meat

There is nothing wrong with living in a trailer park, so just ignore the other kids at school.

Kind of like that stewed okra and tomato sandwich Brother Dave Gardner was so fond of, that "you had to lift and east fast lest it fall through the middle".
A lot of his monologues are on You Tube. If you've never heard of him, give it a try. "James Lewis! Git away frum dat wheelbarrow! You knows you don' know nuttin' 'bout machinery!" |

Louis' Lunch in New Haven, CT is considered by many to be the birthplace of the American Hamburger, and they serve it on sliced bread.

Niece is unaccustomed to the poor man's practice of using sliced bread. She expects a bun.

Nothing wrong in my book. I often take a knife & fork to a hamburger, and would do so with that. Yes, a knife and fork, because I don't need to look like Jaws trying to cram 3" of vertical sandwich into my mouth.

Do you eat hot dogs on melba toast by chance? No, but I have ate them on sliced white bread just like a hamburger. If I am eating a smoked sausage as a sandwich I actually prefer a piece of bread vs a hotdog bun. The bun has too much bread and kind of overpowers it. |

When she put the ketchup on she put it on the burger. So in essence the lettuce provided a barrier from the condiment . |

Nothing wrong with it.
I prefer to use pumpernikel or rye but white will do. Give her the old people staving in the third world speach. |

Gotta at least toast it, but use a hearty, thick sliced bread not that Wonder crap.
And call it a Royale with cheese.... |

Prefer a bun but ate plenty hamburgers on sliced bread when I was a kid.
Damn sure knew better than to say something about to my mom. Sounds kinda good now that I think about it. May just make some that way this week. |
