is there any reason I couldn't shoot round balls in my kentucky pistol without a patch?
I have 200 .454 balls I bought for my 1858, but I can't stand cleaning it so now I use a .45 LC cylinder exclusively
these fit tightly down my kentucky pistol barrel with no room for a patch
if you can do it in a revolver, is there any reason not to in a muzzleloader?

Typically with a revolver, you shave the ball which gives a flat spot for the rifling to engage, not so with a muzzleloader.  It can be fired without a patch but long range accuracy would be effected.

Patches are used because using a ball large enough to engage the rifling requires forcing the projectile all the way down the barrel, not that easy.
A patch is softer than lead and allows easier loading, on a revolver that is not the issue although I would be concerned with excessive pressure.
