I disassembled my S&W Airweight to figure out how it functions. I was also looking for a way to lighten the horrendously heavy DA trigger. The key to the heavy trigger seems to be in the spring in the housing that sits behind the trigger. But now I can't get one very small spring back into the back of the trigger shoe. [:(!]

My local gunsmith is never happy when I bring a gun back in pieces.

I forgot to add that S&W revolvers are quite a bit more complex than Ruger revolvers.

Have you tried using a probulator to get to the spring?

The spring I think you're referring to is the rebound slide spring that inserts into the rebound slide which sits directly behind the trigger.  And yes it is a bitch to install.  I use a wide, flat-head screwdriver to push the spring into the slide housing.  Insert the slide up against the rear of trigger and ease the other opposite end (where you have the screwdriver holding the spring in) down until the notch at the end of the rebound slide catches on the pin on the frame to retain the rebound spring.

Wolff and Wilson Combat both sell spring kits to tune trigger pulls on the Smith J-frames.  You might want to play around with mainspring and rebound spring weights to get a pull that you want.

Thanks, J.
The spring I'm having real trouble with is the one that sits inside the trigger and allows the cylinder "advance" to spring back from the breechface.

You really should stop trying this "shade tree", "DIY" type gunsmithing. BTW, I need your dremel and work bench to work on my AK. [:D]

It's a reference to my sigline which is a reference to the pilot episode of Futurama.
