| So who here has Dish? I'm really considering switching from TWC. Three year price lock, Netflix free for a year, cheaper boxes and movie channels. I just worry about the signal going out if it rains or is foggy. Have satellites gotten better over the past few years? |

They are better than a while back. My parents and I have had satellite tv since the mid 90s.
The Hopper receiver is awesome. In really bad thunderstorms you will lose service, but after it passes the signal comes back. Regular rain events and fog won't knock out the signal. |

Not bad if you can get a good deal on the Hopper, don't live under tall trees or have constant bad weather.
I finally ditched them for Uverse a few months ago when I finally bit the bullet and got home internet to replace my Verizon unlimited 4G, and am happy with it. |

Use a burner cellphone for when you sign up, and lose it a month later. Trust me.
3 years after I dumped Dish, my VOIP server -- that I pretty much installed solely to deal with Dish, had logged something like 100+ calls from them in a year. For an ex-customer. That told them to stop calling, repeatedly. There's a reason the FTC hit them with a mind-boggling fine. Aside from the calls, service wasn't too bad. Maybe a bit overcompressed on some of the less popular channels. |

Had to cut costs last year in January and went with a deal Xfinity had on their X1 DVR. It was a huge mistake. I wrote Comcast this about their system after I returned it: Some issues with the X1 equipment are; 1. Can't get rid of unwatched channels in the guide. It can be filtered by favorites, but the exact same channel shows up with multiple numbers scattered all throughout the favorites. a. Favorites filter for the guide has to re-selected every single day as the guide automatically defaults overnight to show all channels. This is an unnecessary hassle. b. Dish has the option to create multiple custom guides that can be individually named. c. I also had DirecTV in the early 2000’s, and a custom guides was available 15 years ago. This not acceptable for Xfinity to lack such a basic feature that has been around for so long. 2. There is no option to filter the guide by channels I'm authorized to receive. I don’t want to see a hundred channels I can’t get. 3. Programming should be grouped so that news, movies, DIY, shopping, and others are grouped together by categories instead of all mixed up in a haphazard manner within the guide. 4. The guide overlays multiple lines of text in error on the same channel periodically. 5. When selecting a program to record all the series, it does not work and the popup box indicates current episode only, then it has to be re-selected to get the correct option. 6. Deleting scheduled programs to record on the DVR does not work. They still stay. 7. The list of scheduled recordings does not list them all. 8. No forward button that advances a recording a few seconds. a. Dish has a forward 30 seconds and a back 10 seconds button making it easier to skip through content or commercials. 9. Pause and rewind is available only on the main DVR with live programming. a. With the Dish system, the Joey is just a remote unit for the main Hopper DVR and all pause and rewind functions are available. 10. No dedicated DVR button. It takes to many button pushes to start a recording. 11. No edit function to manage or delete multiple recordings at once. 12. DVR playback skips and speeds up playback faster than normal in 1 second bursts. |
