I see there are some 50W LEDs that they say are equivalent to the 500w halogen fixtures.  Have any of you tried them?  I have a few fixtures on one circuit in my pasture dry lot but I'd like to really light it up without needing to run a larger buried wire out there.  My worry is how they'll hold up to the weather.  The halogen bulbs are cheap and easy to replace, but they are energy hogs.

Havent tried the 50w.    I did some 23w retrofits in former HPS fixtures at work last fall.      I am very happy with them so far.

I have a 50W bulb in my garage.  I believe it was marked on the packaging as a 300W equivalent.

I've had it for about a year, through all the seasons in a non climate-controlled garage.  It's been exposed to a temperature range of 30-120° F.

It's pretty bright, good color, no complaints.  It's activated by a motion detector and we use the garage for primary exit/entry of our house.  It probably sees 10-12 on/off cycles a day.

Apparently, I bought it on January 19, 2015.  It was $80 at the time, now it's $100 on Amazon

I've not seen any LEDs that could match a 500w halogen.

For an outdoor lot a xenon or HPS lamp will give you the best efficiency.
