Damn, when you show all the cemetaries like that it really does show something doesn't it? Then again, American fought because it was right, not because we expected to get payed back from the Frogs, I don't think anyone expects them to be faithful. France assisted us in the 18th century for "mostly" political reasons. They were here to pay back the British as much as they were here to "help us." In addition France wanted to have a military force in place in case we lost so that they could reclaim territory lost during the French-Indian Wars. So while the PC version is they were here to help us with our revolution (keep in mind ours preceded theirs - not vice versa as is commonly believed), the true facts of the French motivation are far less noble. If you wish to base your argument on numbers alone, then Stalin helped us to the same extent (actually more) during World War II but he wasn't ever our buddy either. |

When you make incorrect statements of FACT, it tends to make you look ignorant Taking YOUR example I could say that the US didnt go into the European Theatre in WW2 to 'aid france when france asked us to help' BECAUSE at the time france was Vichy, and WASNT asking us for help. I am jsut saying if you are going to make a Statement like that you better make sure you have your facts straight. |

Simply because we had "declared" our independence does not mean that we had won it yet. So "as a free soveirgn country" we had not asked France for help. |

We helped France in a couple of ways long before WW I. First off, we made the Louisiana Purchase, and forked over the French some pretty serious money. Second, we diverted Brit attention during the War of 1812. Neither of these things were altruistic on the US' part. Nevertheless, both sides benefitted. And both actions materially aided the French during their war(s) with the Brits and the rest of Europe, and worked to the direct detriment of the Brits, France's premier enemy of the time. Just thought I'd throw that in. |

Silence is right. The French have always been arrogant, sniveling, self important, assholes. At one point in time it was in their best interest to lend us a hand and they did. They now see it as in their best interest to undermine us, and they are trying. That's world politics.
