My best friend in HS loved them though, and was always trying to get me and a couple of our other friends to listen, but we couldn't dig it. ETA, but I do agree they are more legit than both Linkin Park and Korn. |

I see some common elements between Deftones and Tool, but in the same way there are common elements between Rush and Primus. I've never call one an imitation of the other. I like Deftones a lot, but I've gotten burned out on pretty much all their stuff because it was my go-to weight lifting music for a long time. |

Most people that understand music stopped calling Deftones a NuMetal band almost as quickly as they started.
