What says the hive.....I had to watch a video that was completely USELESS at work about an active shooter scenario. The only thing it gave me was the visual of the shooter going through a cubicle farm shooting people which actually left a mental picture with me. It showed how quickly the shooters could effectively kill and how fast people could be trapped.
So given that I cannot carry a gun, other options? I carry a SOG folding knife. Pepper spray is a possibility, not very effective in an active shooter situation I was thinking a collapsible police baton or baseball bat in my cabinet....something to ambush with. In the absence of a reliable firearm, best option?.....other than the red stapler. |

Work related stuff is such a tough issue. Nothing is going to be as valuable as a gun would be in that situation. Maybe something like a DPX blaster plus an asp. The midset would be to hit him/her with the DPX and hope it creates enough of a distraction to close distance.
Another option and something you should do regardless is talk to your coworkers about the realities of the situation. Overpowering a subject even if it means some of you will probably soak up some lead might be the best way to preserve the most lives. fwiw, I play by the rule concealed means concealed but absolutely understand the reservations. |

I can't carry (IWB/OWB) at a lot of my clients but I always have a pistol on me in my laptop case or my backpack. It's not the same as having it at my 4 oclock, but I'm never more than a couple feet from my gun. |

Any way to plant a gun in your desk, cube or office? Bring it in one day and keep it there until needed? Provided it is legal, because if you are fired and escort you out immediately and say they will pack your shit for you and they clean out your desk they may find it, but as long as it's legal fuck them, they can't fire you twice.
ETA: by office I mean your personal office that you and only you use, not "the office" as in the area your company operates in. |
| A guy I worked with always had a hiking stick with him. He said he had a bad hip or knee, not sure which. He had taken some classes on the use of a quarter staff. When he would practice it was obvious that there was no problems. Company never questioned the hiking stick. |
3-cans of wasp spray and a broom closet...........Thats it......
Ok so I might could get away with a deep conceal.....But i'm not risking a +200K a-year job for total safety....Wasp spray, and we do have a locked (Limited keycard) access space, and it's sorta bullet proof. Sorta, maybe. I got a lot of computer rack equipment that i can hide in-between. And FBHO.....Just cause......I had to put something that made sense... |

I feel your pain.
I work for a local government and while we can secure our carry gun in our vehicle we cannot carry in the building. Since we fix cop cars there is usually an AR or 870 out in the garage in a squad under maintenance, sometimes secured in my office while the vehicle is offsite as well. Never overnight though, we give them to an officer to take back to the station ASAP after removal. Full time I carry a utility knife and keep and old PR-24 baton secured under my desk, most likely threat in my building would be a disgruntled employee(s). |
| I carry a small backpack with me daily when I go to work, keep my personal laptop in there etc. I've often thought about putting my Glock 17 in the bag with a few extra mags, work has a corporate policy against weapons. Hell we can't even carry a pocket knife... As someone said before, concealed means concealed and lobby security don't stop people and search their bags before coming and going. |

ETA: by office I mean your personal office that you and only you use, not "the office" as in the area your company operates in. This is sorta how I look at it. My employers policy is no "weapons" which covers pretty much everything from pocket knives to firearms. Pepper spray and a baton are probably enough to get me fired. If I'm going to cross the line even a little bit I might as well go all the way. The way I look at it is any pepper spray with a range over 5' is probably going to be pretty big (compared to something I could carry on a keychain) that plus an ASP means i would have to leave them in my desk. With a firearm its on my body at all times. I'm always aware of its location and take steps to insure it stays concealed. I don't talk to anyone about guns at work I took every piece of gun related swag off my car and don't ever bring anything "tactical" looking to work. Hell if I was asked my opinion on guns I would say I was anti-gun. I play the grayman card as much as possible. Good luck OP |

.gov facility here. Armed security force "protects" is from the bad men. They're contractors who don't get paid shit, work shit hours, and have shit fitness requirements. We're fucked. All carry M9's in level 1 Serpa drop leg holsters, wear all black uniforms, and wear soft armor. Of course when it's above 78 degrees they can take it off. |

That's right. And when you work for a state or City government, concealed means 15-20 in a State owned prison run by a shitty contractor firm. Quoted:

Concealed means CONCEALED. Take that for what you wish. That's right. And when you work for a state or City government, concealed means 15-20 in a State owned prison run by a shitty contractor firm. I guess that's a choice we each have to make, which side of the compromise do you want to be on? |

I see that your employer and mine use the same security company. |

Where I work, a bridge crane operator could drop 50 tons (or more) of scrap steel onto any shooter. The shooter's body could then wind up in a 100 ton arc furnace that melts the scrap. I'm not sure that this sort of action would be reported by anyone, other than an unusual mistake by the crane operator
Besides, what evidence would there be after the fact? Of course, the above is purely hypothetical, like the OP's premise. |

Just memorize some Islamic prayers and begin shouting them when the shooting starts and holding some Islamic prayer beads. Keep a copy of the Koran visible on your desk. You'll probably be safe, sorry about your coworkers though. One of the shooter's coworkers was a Muslim, and he got a cap in his ass anyway. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Someone I trust told me about two years ago I need to know the difference between allowed and able. I don't care if I am allowed to carry, as long as I am safely able to do so, I will. I assume risk just by carrying, might as well go for the full montey. Right there. You will have to live with your actions either way. Make the decision and don't look back. |

Your employer doesn't give a fuck about you. If it were me, unless it was actually against the law, I'd carry anyway. Barring metal detectors in place, I'd strongly consider carrying and keep it quiet. This, keep your mouth shut. Many people find that simple action hard to do.
