The kids have read the books. This movie scares me.
Orphans and widows. |

What's up with stories like The Hunger Games and Divergent being so popular with liberals? A bunch of disarmed communist/socialist utopias going to shit because of those very ideas... Irony? Liberals are mentally I'll. They see what they want and expell everything else. |

Tweener garbage. Ever notice how everyone is young and good looking in these movies? Not a hair out of place, sporting the latest stylish haircuts, perfect makeup, etc. Not enough food, but plenty of hair gel for all in the dystopian future. |

The kids see that. |

Great books. Its a lot of fun to read a "kids" book every now and then between the heavier stuff. Bonus that these turned out to have some great meaning as well. The Ranger's Apprentice is a kids book series, but really good if you like that. Its about a kid who becomes a rangers apprentice. Learns bows, knives, tracking, riding, etc. |

Quoted: Mandatory reading for all 8th grade classes. Shows the truth about a tolatarian government. Libs love it but they don't understand it's against them. They are just that dumb. Wonder if some raging liberal watches the movie and starts screaming to tear the capital apart and they're like ," now hold on a second here". |

Well, from a liberal perspective, the Capital represents conservatism and the inevitable result of capitalism left unchecked - the Districts are the poor peons turned into slave labour to feed the Capital's desire for cheap products. The book could be seen as a call to rise up and destroy the oppressive conservative establishment and replace it with collectivism. |

With all the debauchery and indulgence portrayed in the Capital of Panem, and the absence of religion, it would be hard to paint it as a conservative government. Leftists could misinterpret the society as "capitalist", because they don't really understand what capitalism really is. |

It's teaching the right lessons. |

Saw them all.
Teaches that trust must be earned and people in power always have an agenda that benefits them. I find the lack of any religious references to be good. The author could have portrayed the rebels as religious (being from the bible belt kinda) and the Capitalist to be atheist. Instead the subject was not even broached. Good on the author for not bring that into the story. I disliked the rebels as always wearing dark sad clothes and uniforms while the capital troops wore white. It was too obvious. |

Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Taking the kids to see it tomorrow evening. 6:30 showing, but I do have a DVR if needed. I actually don't normally start watching until about 20 minutes after it starts, this way I can fast forward through the commercials. |

She said the first book looked interesting so I ordered her a copy. Thanks! |

Wonder if some raging liberal watches the movie and starts screaming to tear the capital apart and they're like ," now hold on a second here". Some have. There was a leftst editorial posted here a few months ago from the Compost or NYT warning parents about the dangerous messages in the stories. As for how liberals seemingly enjoy the stories, I think they see a shallow grrrl power thing and that's it. I'm not saying that the stories have much depth, but they're slightly deeper than the sex of the protagonist. |

I read the books when a student recommended them and I like them well enough. They are like a George Orwell starter kit. I have seen the movies as well at home and they are OK, it is a shame that the star is a raging libtard apparently. The reason why liberals don't see the irony about big government being bad in the hunger games is they see the Capitol as fascists not communists. They fail to see that any big government is dangerous. |

Very good introduction for kids and teens on why authoritarianism and totalitarianism are very evil things.
Also a decent way to get kids started out on learning the history of the Roman Republic/Empire ( The entire society in Hunger Games is pretty much a futuristic Roman civilization. The name of the country is even Latin for "Bread") |
