As some would say, "Go Chrome or Go Home".

Unless you are trying to squeeze as much accuracy out of your AR, read the quote above.

Even in saying that, there's other more viable area's that can be upgraded to squeeze out the most accuracy out of your AR.
The trigger is the first thing to come to my mind.

A chrome lined barrel will last AT LEAST twice as long as a SS barrel and you won't find an easier barrel to clean then a chrome lined barrel. If you really want to make cleaning a snap, run a bore snake with some CLP through the bore a few times before you put your rifle away at the range. When you get around to clean your AR, it will be a snap.

I called Bushmaster about that question a few years ago, and they said that they have a M16 that has gone 20,000 rounds, and the barrel is still good. According to them your barrel is worn out when your shot goups start to open up.

20,000 to 30,000 rounds out of a chrome barrel is about average.

I would think more then that would be an exception.

So does that mean the first item to change should be the barrel......nix the stainless and order the bushy?......cant retract my order now its on the way....but if chrome is the way then is there anyone else that makes a chrome lined other than bushmaster?

Armalite, colt, and rra all make chrome lined barrels.

I'm not saying a SS barrel is bad, I am stating that the only advantage a SS barrel has is accuracy. All other area's the chrome lined is the king.

If I was to build a long range AR, SS would be the only way to go.
