Well if you're under 18 the only job you pretty much can legally get is in retail. Safely laws and such.

How could anyone make enough money working retail? They cant. In High School I worked in retail and I made $7.95 an hour. Top it off I was limited to 25-30 hours a week. In college I took a business economics and labor course, the professor told us all a tale about her native Europe. Manufacturing had all but disappeared except for heavy industry like automobiles, aircraft and defense. Something like 65% of Europeans work in service, the balance are white collar management and government. With that amount of people slinging coffee, beer and iphones, they get together and vote in leftists to raise their pay, and provide benefits. This is the natural progression of highly developed nations. Yep, and the natural order of things here. If we go to war with China at some point though, do you really thing all the Target cashiers, Star Bucks flunkies are going to step up and fire a rifle in anger against them? lol Funny how it's been this shitbag generation doing exactly that for over a decade. By all means though, everyone under 30 is a useless bastard. ETA: Quoted:

I love stereotypes. I have a hard time finding good engineers, welders, etc. Nobody wants to get dirty or work in the field. And if they do it's hard to find someone that will work any OT in a salaried position-here it is part of the job. I have welders that work for me on maintenance outages who earn $100k+ from January to May. They take the summer off and work in the fall and make more. Tube welders are in demand, but people want to sit in a fabric covered box working 40 hrs a week. View Quote Also millenial. 28. Graduated as a Mechanical Designer (uber Draftsman/3D dude essentially - think of it as engineer lite, without the math ). Left previous company, came to where I am. Started drawings lines, circles, and rectangles to make giant contraption for Kimberly Clark. After main drawing portion finished, I went out to the shop. Learned machine assembly, welding (also shit, but metal sticks ok now), then dove head long into an empty machine shop that was just sitting there. Now, I run it solo - make 3D parts, take that part and turn it into G/M-Code for an older CNC machine, setup said machine with tool and work offsets, and hit start. I also order tools needed, organized the whole damn place (5 sigma bitches!), made custom jigs and fixtures, and broke a metric fuck ton of taps. Definitely not smooth sailing by any means, but I'm damn proud when I figure out how to do shit proper with no one helping me. |

The young people today are doing fine. This isn't the Great Depression, or the civil war. Did I mention the all-volunteer army fighting two wars. If Bernie gets the nod the world won't end, hell your SS check might even get bigger. Did your parents bitch when JFK, or Carter, or Lincoln (you sound real old) was elected? "People have phones!
