Anyone have any reivews of the SA XD Pistols (9, 40, or .357)?

I bet the only ones who give good responces are those that already own one.[:)]

I should have bought one a year ago when they were super cheap. I did'nt because I thought they were super junk. Croatia?
Now they cost about the same as a G19 and the positive reviews keep flowing in.

Personally I think they are crap, just like the rest of the pistols SA makes.

The compact model is bulky and too short of a barrel to be of any use, the tactical is to barrel heavy.

Couldn't SA copy someone besides glock?

SA needs some serious help with the QA/QC.

Hope this answers your question.

I don't own one, but I have used one. I quite like it, to be honest. Very intuitive operation, accurate. Reliable, from my use, anyway. I only fired a couple hundred rounds, but had no problems with it at all. I'm now toying with the idea of buying one, which is quite a landmark, really, as I've been exclusively a 1911 guy for over 20 years. In fact the only other modern pistol I've owned is my grandfathers Smith 10.
Hope that helps.

My buddy just bought one for $479 in MD. The local shop here in Norfolk has the SAME one (Black and green) for $569!!! Retail on the damn thing is $512. I want one, but I'm holding off till I find one that doesn't cost too effing much.

Here is a review:

The top part is sort of flat black, and the bottom part is OD green.

I have an XD-9.  Love it.  About 500 rounds, no problems.  Accurate and well built.  Easy to take down.  Mags are about $20.00.

Only drawback is the standard slide finish is not that great but it's a very small issue (and a non-issue if you get a stainless slide).

Some people have complained about the high bore axis but I've never had an issue with it.  Of all the handguns in our collection it's the one I'm most accurate and consistent with.

Rep - You might want to try posting this in the Handguns forum.  You'll probably get a few more constructive answers there.

I personally haven't heard anything but positive reports about them, other than the a-little-bit-too-high price.

I put off buying a SA XD-9 for some time because I didn't want a Glock clone.  I was not impressed at all with the Glock and figured I didn't need something mimicking it.

After all of the hype, I rented one at the range and I loved it.  I bought my own the next day.  It is far superior to the Glock in every way.  It is a natural pointer, accurate, and very reliable.  That is one gun purchase that I will never regret

SpringfieldRep,

My one suggestion for the gun would be change the slide finish.  Tennifer or what H&K uses on USP's and I would have ZERO negative things to say about it.

Oh, I do like a P99/USP style mag release but that's just a personal preference.  The XD's is perfectly good.

Well what is the deal with the springfield 45 that the front end of the slide broke off, I have never seen any 45 do that, do you know what the heck happened???

I've got one and love it.  Shoots great.

Hey, SpringfieldRep.  I've seen the new ones that are all green and want one real badly.  How 'bout trading me a green one for my black one?  I'll say a lot of nice stuff about you on this forum.

I love my XD40. 2000rnds. 1 FTF. Old ammo.
Only bad thing I can say about the XD is the Finish on the slide.  I can scratch it with my fingernail.
Change the finish.
Thanks.

I wonder Springfield Rep works for Home Depot and is just a clever newbie who wanted a quick response to a question on the XD's.

There is one thing about it I don't like.  The grip safety.  I don't get a positive response like I do on my 1911.  I am concerned that if I had thick gloves on, it might not fully depress.

I love my XD9 so much I just picked up its big brother the XD40 in OD.  The only complaint I can see is maybe the black finish on the XD9 is a little on the soft side but otherwise its a great gun and I can't wait for the XD45!

i had an hs2000 and loved it. I traded it for a High standard model 10A bullpup shotgun. I like the pistol and for the 250.00 i paid for it was a great pistol.

The SA bought the rights and raised the price nearly 300.00. I want another but frankly will not spend the money. It would be like paying 550.00 for a CZ75.

I had an XD40. Was an absolutley great gun. Had to let it go to pay off some small bills when we were getting ready to build our new house. Have since switched to nothing but .45's. As soon as an XD45 comes out, I will be all over it. I absolutley LOVE SA 1911's. All 5 of the recent ones I had were excellent. I had a minor slide/frame fit problem on one, and it was fixed perfectly very quickly. I will probably pick up another SA 1911 very soon.

Go to hs2000talk.com for a thorough review.
And while you're at it actually pcik up the gun and touch it for yourself.  I am not happy with the Springfield response on broken ejectors.  Suggesting it is not factory mags causing the problem is ignorant.  You aren't the ignorant one are you?

On a positive note my HS2000 2nd generation is an excellent gun for what they charged. Mine was 297.00 out the door. Very well made, shoots anything I've fed it, Beretta mags convert right in also S&W 59 series.

NOW....why did the price go up so much since Springfield had their name put on it now? Same gun, same manufacture. I would love to have a .40cal but forget it since you guys over priced the pistol.
Lower the price to where it should be and I'll be a XD40 user. Until then keep em.

My XD-40 was my first (and currently, my only) handgun. I like it a lot, though I've only run about 500 rds through it.  So far, I've been very pleased with it.  I haven't had any problems with the slide finish, but I haven't beaten it up very much yet.

My one suggestion: I'd LOVE to see a .22LR conversion kit offered for the XD series.

Alot of guys are using them in local IDPA style matches.
I think they are really cool, better than a Glock.
I prefer 1911's though.

So dave, have you ever shot one? The regular or the compact? Just about every person that has shot the subcompact has been amazed at the accuracy and the minimal recoil. So how is the barrel too short now?

And just what makes this a copy of a glock? That it's polymer and a semi-auto? It has a different grip angle, beefier rails, different trigger action, doesn't use plastic mags, different finish, has a grip safety, doesn't have polygonal rifling. And that it can use a wide variety of low cost high capacity mags?

I bought one for $200, and I have sold a couple dozen. People buy them because of the magazines, not because of their quality or lack of it.

The man asked for a review, I gave it. My opinion, one mans opinion. That is all.

They have had problems with extractors, and SA gives everyone the run around, almost like glock.

Quality is the issue with all their weapons as of late. 3 of 4 TRP's we have sold have been sent back to SA for issues, I would not expect that for a $1000 gun. M-1A's are having issues, plus they look crappy for $1000+ guns.

I won't buy their guns any longer, and do not push anyone towards one. If they want one it is at their own risk.

I hope this has answered your question.

Hey Deb, that you?

I don't own a XD, but hope that I will soon. Keep hoping for a .45. As far as the people having problems with their SA 1911, mine (9109L) shoots perfectly. I've not had a single problem with the pistol in my years of ownership.

The best prices locally in West Michigan have been $389.99-429.99 for the .40 or 9mm XD.  I have sold about 10 Springfield pistols XD and 1911 so far.  No problems yet. :/
