Doing a small remodel at my house and they were installing some doors.  The guy left the masking tape on while he was working on something else.  After a few months the masking tape left  tenacious deposits of goo.  Yesterday, I saw one of the workers, literally working all day, carefully removing the gooey mess.  I found this trick, using WD-40 on the internet.  It worked like magic.

Hell Yes.
I would take ALL day doing an easy paying job like removing tape.
Glad you figured it out though.

yep...removes: stickers, black scuff marks on vinyl flooring and tiles, and squeaks.

it's a great solvent.  I buy the cans with the built in straw now cause I always lose the little red straw and can't find it when I need it

I love WD-40.  Have a gallon jug, the refillable hand pump sprayer and a few aerosol cans.

Check out their website, as they have a whole suite of specialty products as well.

That stuff is magic. Had one of those mouse glue traps flip over and the glue pooled on the warehouse floor. Scrapped up most of the goop and a co-worker said to use WD-40. It all came off in seconds, no residue no trace of glue.

Yep.  Just used this to wipe the adhesive from my old car registration off the windshield.  It's in a tough spot to scrape off, but with WD-40 it just wipes off.

I just sprayed my wallet down with WD-40

-Cards no longer "stick" when trying to get them out

-Leather feels better/ quit cracking

I am a WD-40 abuser.  I spray it on just about everything for the first pass of cleaning and removing adhesive.  Often enough it works.

I don't think this guy was "riding the clock".

He has been working at my house for almost a year on various aspects of my remodel. He doesn't appear to be slacker.

Great pups.

My girl is starting to have some issues with her eyes. Interstitial hyper keratosis. I have to put eye drops in her eyes every day.

Spray some WD 40 on it.

WD is good as a cheap replacement for CLP to wipe down magazines.  Don't use it as a lube though, dries up and leaves gum residue

There is no better hand cleaner than good ole WD40.

Liquid nails, caulk, paint, whatever.  Squirt WD40 on your hands and off it comes.

I just want to know where you got the Pulsar analog watch.

Beautiful dog, also.  I hope he got one of the burgers for exercising restraint.

I used mineral spirits to clean up some surplus FAL mags I bought. I imagine it would be cheaper than WD40. And you can let the gunk settle out, siphon the spirits off and use it again.

Worked for me.  Had a nail curled into a C.  WD40 daily for a few days eased the pain and when it grew out, fungus gone!!!  YMMV

Mineral spirits and the cheapest paint brush you can find.  Cosmoline comes right off.

Yeah, I have 16 surplus FAL magazines still in the wrap and a few others that are quite tacky with cosmoline.

I'll use the mineral spirits and save the WD40 for other uses.

Thanks to all who replied.

Just put one drop of Super Glue on the straw at the nozzle and you will never lose another straw. Do it before you ever spray it.

While significantly more expensive, good ol' Hoppes No. 9 works even faster and better for adhesive removal. I haven't tried Ed's Red yet...
