what is with Apple? every update I get makes my mac run slower it feels more and more like a PC the new OS looks like something a three year old did
what am I missing? |
| Yeah, new iOS on my iPhone 4 - it's all fucky now. Can't go back either. My iPad 2 ran great on the old version, now it's all fucky too with new iOS. I'm convinced it's intentional. "Hey, let's release a new operating system, that older devices can't run efficiently, then make it so consumers can't go back to the old version. They'll have to buy new devices." It's smart business, but all of my Apple products have run very well in the past and that was what I liked most. |

"It just works!"

Did you just do it? The hard drive might be indexing, if you have a lot of files it can take some time. Quoted:

Apple updates are fucktarded. Click Update to download El Capitan upgrade. Have to search app drawer to actually initiate upgrade Half the software updates require a valid iTunes account to install/update. If you don't have one it asks you to sign in over and over.

This. Both Macs and iOS devices. Give it a few days. Otherwise might be time for a reset. So after a few days (it's been about 4 days since I upgraded the operating system), how would I perform the reset if still slow? Are you referring to logging into iTunes and basically starting over from scratch with the device, then update to most recent iOS? |

OSX -> Restart, hold Command + R during restart, Disk Utility, Erase, and Reinstall OSX iOS -> Settings, General, Reset, Erase all content and settings Make sure you sign out of everything and backup important data first. |

Whenever you do a major OS update you should restore as new (after backing up) and setup from scratch. Most people who have issues update OTA or haven't done a restore in years with 10+ updates stacked on top of each other. Not every update install is going to go smoothly and a single corrupted file can cause all sorts of issues. I am running 9.1 beta and 10.11.1 beta without any issues. Get great battery life, everything runs smoothly, and the performance is better than iOS 8 and 10.10. Most reviews of 10.11 have said its a good performance update over 10.10. They didn't add many new features but did a lot of work under the hood to improve day to day performance. Also, every .0 update is going to have bugs. If people are so worried about it they should hold off updating until more patches are put out. A lot of people wait for the .1 or .2 updates. |
| Yup. My macbook pro is going on 5 years old and keeps dragging more and more with each update. Meanwhile, there seems to be another update every day. Maybe I should do a full restore, but I'm not sure how to do that with a mac, I don't think it came with install disks and that would be like 3 OS' ago. |

Ha, yeah "it just works!" don't it? Earlier this week I finally had to update my work iphone 5 from its original IOS 6 install, I could no longer download apps I needed for travel so I gave it a whirl even though I hate the "new" pastel colors. It updated to IOS 8.xxx whatever and fucking IMMEDIATELY I noticed that unlike 5 minutes earlier at about 15% battery life the stupid phone shuts.the.fuck.DOWN. Before it would go all the way down to 2% or lower before shutdown. That's shitty.
Unfortunately (?) I dropped it at the Delta checkin scanner the next day and smashed the screen/digitizer so I can't tell if this is going to continue or not until I fix it but I was pretty disappointed. Not a fan of Apple's software prowess. |

More advanced software is going to require more of the hardware running it. No way around it. There comes a time in the lifecycle of any device where it is time to stop installing the latest and greatest OS on it... because the device doesn't have the nuts for it.
It is douchey that Apple doesn't give the ability to go back to the old OS. I would imagine it can be done if one plans ahead with backups. |

I am running the next upcoming version of IOS Coming out and have had no speed problems. Matter of fact I do not think there has been an update in a while that has noticeably slowed my phone or ipad. It might be time to upgrade to a newer ipad and/or laptop.
I can agree with you on the fact that I wish there was an option to downgrade to a previous version. |

Its better to have as many devices on the same OS as possible for security, and to keep people's devices using the same API's for apps. Maybe Apple should cut off devices a year sooner. It's not intentional to slow down people's stuff to get them to go buy new ones but extending the life of devices security and app wise. Someone with a 4S got iOS 9 so they can use iOS 9 only apps. If they got cut off at iOS 7 there will be almost 2 years of apps that will require iOS 8 or 9 minimum they could not have access to. Updating older devices with OS updates is a devil edged sword and people will bitch either way. I can imagine people complaining because their 3 year old phone cannot download all the new apps. Edit- Also remember people are buying 2 year old iPhones for "free" with a contract so if Apple cut them off at 3 years people would have 1 year before apps starting cutting them out. |

Yeah, that is true, I definitely understand that. But Apple is damned if they do, and damned if they don't. Every time a new phone comes out, people with old phones piss and moan that the new software features aren't available on the old phone. If Apple did make them all available, they would get hammered because the old phones are super slow. Either way they get accused of "forced obsolescence" or whatever that retarded buzzword people who don't know anything about software development like to call it. People getting old phones for "free" need to accept that their cheapness got them a phone that will be obsolete sooner than later. Like most areas in life, you get what you pay for. |
