This guy I know (who will remain anonymous to protect the stupid) was struck by a 3' metal bar on Wednesday on the head and face. Impact areas were on the right side of his head about 2" above his temple and then across his right cheekbone below the orbital and finally his lip. No loss of consciousness. He "saw stars" but didn't know exactly what happened. Minor painful swelling of his lip and a small lump on his head. He thought he might have loosened his front right three teeth. After the initial pain wore off he said his teeth and gum and cheek were numb. No blood. No headaches. No dizziness. His cheek and teeth/gums are still numb and he says he gets a tingling nerve pain in his lip when he touches his cheek. No obvious cognitive impairment but it's hard to tell with this guy. Thursday night he said he blew his nose in the shower and expelled what looked like a leech. Yesterday he could hawk up minor blood loogies. I think after consulting my doctor ladyfriend that he probably gave his maxillary nerve a stinger and may have at least suffered some trauma to his right maxillary sinus-at most a hairline fracture since his cheek and orbital are obviously not fractured. He said if he could get a free MRI or XRay out of the deal he'd go to an urgent care center just out of curiosity. Otherwise he doesn't want to bother with the hassle and expense. I said he should probably fo. I also called dibs. What say ye, ARFCOM? ETA: getting hit by the bar was not an assault. It was clumsiness.
