It's coming time to buy tires for the F 2 fiddy. Anybody have any good recommendations? I drive 99% pavement and hate tires that suck in the rain.

I know where you can get a couple lightly used tires!

Look at Cooper tires. I switched from Pirelli to Cooper for my FJ and they have been great.

Michelin is always a great choice.

We had Pirelli Scorpions on one of our Expeditions, and they were decent truck type AS tires, too IMO.

Gotta go with these guys. I won't buy any other tires besides the M/S or M/S2's.

I used to personally sell and install between 1,200 and 1,500 tires a year.

The M/S Michelins in E are are about $1015 otd at discount.  that is the best tire made for the street.  You can get the above mentioned Hankook ATM for about $700 otd.  I ended up buying a set of takeoff Firestone Transforce ATs in E last time I got tires.  I had Firestone mount them and balance them and sell me a Road Hazard.  I came in at $675.  That was over a $1000 worth.

The last set I had began to dry rot after 2 years.  A google search showed this to be a widespread problem.   Dont know if they have corrected the issue or not, but I just installed a set of General altimax RT43's because of it.  I am well pleased with the altimax's thus far.

I have a set of M/S's that's 4 or 5 years old with no dry rot including the uncovered, rear door mounted, spare. I only drive about 6k a year, so my vehicle sits in the driveway in the same spot for weeks at a time.

My wife has a set of M/S2's that's almost 2 years old with no rot.

I actually had a pair of Michelin "cross-terrain" (giant, OE sized wide mother fuckers) on a V8 MB SUV so long they DID dry rot.  Thank God one finally broke at home when adjusting the air pressure, and not out on the open road at speed.  Dry rot  - especially with Michelins that seemingly last forever  - is something to really be aware of.

Honestly, in all the years I drove and commuted in Explorers and Expeditions, I almost always had Michelin LTXs, and absolutely loved them. But one of our Expeditions came with Pirelli Scorpions as OE, and I actually like them so much I bought them once as a replacement.  And I drive a shitload of miles each year, and I typically replace the tires on my commuter every other year.  So while Michelin LTXs (or whatever the latest variation may be - don't know I now drive an AWD sedan) are the cat's meow, I'd say don't discount Pirelli Scorpions, either.  But if the OP is in Texas, snow capability in an AS tire may not be an issue.

The OE tires I had were Pirelli Scorpions. Not a bad tire but kinda sucked in the rain. I did get a lot of miles out of them though. The Coopers I have now were very nice when new but have worn out very fast. One is so bad that I'm surprised that I passed my last state inspection. I've been putting off this purchase all summer but now I have to do it. Sometime in the next week or two I'm driving to New York to pick up a airplane project.

i would suggest any BF-Goodrich, or Michelins
some higher end good years are good too

if you get michelins just keep a eye on them, they dry rot like a rain drop in a desert

I suspect Michelin may no longer makes the Cross Terrain, and that's a shame, because they were awesome kickass tires for SUVs and sport crossovers.  The tread was symmetrical (not directional), so you could cross rotate, and dear God they gripped and reacted like top tier AS sport tires.

Our Scorpions did very well in the rain and the snow, on I think it was our 08 Expedition.  I ran them at the higher end of the PSI window normally, and reduced pressure a bit when it snowed.  If I'm not mistaken, I may have trudged home in the famous DC "snowmageddon" on the Scorpions.

Just bought a set of tires today in this exact same size. I once again, purchased Firestone Destination AT's. A good, quiet, grippy, 50k mile tire. The entire time they were on the truck this last time, I only rotated and balanced them one time. They still wore well. I'll be tKing better care of this set.

Just another option to consider.

I believe Bridgestone owns Firestone, and they essentially share the same technology. Bridgestone takes a lot of pride in what they make.

You are correct. I've always had great luck with any Bridgestone/Firestone tire I have owned. Rain traction is always great with them.

I've been using Hercules tires for the past 8 months and they have been great. Did some heavy braking last night in a rain storm and it they didn't slip at all. I've done a lot of off roading (driving through purpose built off-road/mud pits in the middle of the night) and they do fine there. Quiet, made in America, and I got em for s good price. I don't remeber the model but I can look in the morning if you are interested.

I always had good luck and was happy with Firestone Destination AT's until my last set wore off in about 10K miles. I put on Cooper AT3's and so far my only complaint is that they really hang on to gravel. I drove it down a gravel road and then got on the expressway in TN and had picked up so many stones that the truck was vibrating at 70 until the stones started cutting loose. Spent the next day plucking them out with Leathermans.

I have about 20,000 mostly highway miles on mine and they look good so far.  Relatively inexpensive street tires for the F250.
Also - since OP is in Texas - there's a outside of Houston based seller on ebay who offers the take-off bumpers, wheels, tires, mirrors, etc from new trucks when the owners get aftermarket items.
