Quoted: There's always that one point in people's lives where they learn how important it is to backup their shit. This is yours. I've managed to keep the same contacts (with additions, obviously) since 2003, transferring them from phone to phone. I didn't realize that an update would break my shit. |

Lesson learned, right? |

Updating software always brings the risk of messing shit up, on any sort of device. Always back your shit up before updating an operating system. |

Forget the IOS update, What if your phone is lost or stolen? Dropped and broken? Just stops working? You never thought to be backing your phone up to safeguard your data all these years? Do you back up the data on your computers? I'm betting no. |

Are you sure you don't have an iCloud backup?
You might check once you get it restored. I do an iCloud backup every night automatically. Your phone may do iCloud backups when it's being charged and on WiFi. If anything ever happens to my phone, I'm covered. What if you'd lost your phone or it was stolen. Would that be Apple's fault too? I also do an iTunes backup before updating - so I have two. Just check OP. Your phone may have been doing backups for you. |
| iOS 9 froze my 5s in recovery mode yesterday but the Genius Bar plugged it in and took care of it. It took them two attempts though. Plugged my phone into ITunes when I got home and all is good. No excuse for not backing up before an update, much less a new operating system. I gained a gig of memory, but I haven't seen much difference. |

Try doing a hard reset by holding the home and power button down until the Apple logo appears. Might fix that glitch. Otherwise as everyone else has said not having backups is not Apple's fault. You can do them through iCloud or your Mac/PC. Also keeping all your contacts saved on the phone locally and not through iCloud, Gmail, Outlook, Exchange, etc is really bad. It's amazing to me how many people are running around with so much important stuff and don't backup or sync their data to another source. |

Quoted: On my 6+ it didn't really change much more than the view when I close/change apps. On my iPad Air the multi task function is nice, I can text people while reading arfcom without jumping back and forth.
