| Who's getting the new album?! |
|
A recent review I read:
"This is the metal equivalent of the color beige, utterly bland and unremarkable. At this point, I am on the 7th song, but the only reason I know that is because I actually pulled up my music player to check. I remember absolutely nothing about any of the previous songs, other than they're all pretty mid-paced and have Tom Araya vocals. This is the sound of a band coasting, riding the laurels of their past work, phoning it in with the knowledge that a decent portion of their fanbase will buy enough records and go to their shows that they will be able to keep making money. This is a band that needs to follow the Bolt Thrower rule of making new albums: if it's not good enough to stand up to your past material, then don't bother recording it. Just tour off your old material, because that's the stuff people want to hear when they see you live anyway." |

Case in point: Not trashing Slayer, they have some great stuff but IMO they're just kinda coasting now. Quoted:

So much better thrash metal out there now. Case in point: Not trashing Slayer, they have some great stuff but IMO they're just kinda coasting now. Word. Slayer was HUGELY important in the formation of metal, especially extreme metal, in the 80s and early 90s. They stopped being innovative and worth a damn after Seasons in the Abyss, though. More great new thrash:

It'd be almost impossible to beat their older stuff. Just like any other band, the old stuff is always the best stuff. I'm still gonna get it, because..well...fucking slayer. Can't fault you there, I hope you enjoy it I'll probably get the new Maiden CD as well while I'm there. I know its on youtube but I haven't given it a listen. Pretty good album? |

It's excellent. It is very different from their older stuff of course, it's more progressive IMO. Song writing is superb, very little filler. I think it's it's one of their more consistently good newer albums. I've enjoyed all their newer albums, but only in part. AMOLAD, DOD, FF are all good but there's some filler IMO. This is the best one since Brave New World- and maybe better. I'm not ready to make that call yet. Ask me again in a month or two Empire of the Clouds may be one of their most epic songs EVER. |

David Spade used to have a great stand up routine about bands pushing their new garbage at concerts in lieu if playing their great hits In the Flock Of Segulls behind the music guy stated that he hated and despised Run but said that's what the people pay to hear so he opens and closes with it in his shows |
