This really started because I had a hankerin' for my grandma's cookies.  Years ago, she passed along the secret recipe.  I usually just wait until I go out to Utah and ask her to make me some, but this summer our travel plans didn't work out.  So, I had to activate plan B...

They're plain ol' Oatmeal Cookies, but damn if they're not the best cookies in the world.  Don't mind the fact they look a little strange going into the oven.

A hint of things to come...

After the cookies were finished, I started on dinner.  Surf & Turf, of sorts, was on the menu.  I started with a marinade for the shrimp...

I had to devein and peel a few of these little guys, if not for that step I'd eat more shrimp for sure.  The Survive Knives! Necker II did very well for the task, the CPM20CV was stropped to a razor's edge...

The steak was grass-fed ribeye from a local hippy store.  I like this store for their seafood and produce, but the steak was frankly mediocre.  None-the-less, I had the grill fired up and ready to go.  I threw some hickory chips into the mix to smoke out the shrimp a bit...

While the food was cooking, I sauteed some mushrooms in butter and EVOO, teriyaki and redwine, with some garlic and pepper...

Here's the finished result.  Steak with sauteed mushrooms, grilled shrimp, grilled corn on the cob, and a grilled French baguette.  Fightin' weapons include my Daniel Defense AR, Springfield TRP Operator with rail, reloads for both, as well as a Limited Edition Zero Tolerance 801 flipper knife with plain titanium scales and S110V steel...

Medium rare with sauteed fungus...

The beer was a Rhinegeist Sabertooth Tiger Imperial IPA...

Happy Labor Day, Arfcom!!

I agree.  There are a few places around here that sell prime, and in the past I've used steaks from those shops in my dinner pics, but I picked this stuff up on a whim with the intent of staging it around the shrimp.

Excellent work OP.

will overlook the improper napkin placement, and the fact that said napkin is not cloth. Heathen.

Good work.

With regards to the steak, next time just pick up a dry aged cut from whole foods.

I don't go to Whole Foods too often.  We have a few shops that sell prime, and in the summer a lot of farmers markets that sell a ton of good stuff.  But I was at work on Saturday from 6 to 6 when the farmers markets were open, and the butcher shop wasn't open today.

That's a tall order, but...

Cup of brown sugar, cup of white sugar, cup of vegetable oil.  Mix together, add two eggs and a teaspoon of vanilla extract, add to this a tablespoon of salt, 2 cups flour, teaspoon of baking soda,  mix all this together, and then add 3 cups of oatmeal.  Mix until all the oatmeal is incorporated, it will seem like its too much oatmeal.  Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes.

10/10 for real.

Here is my only disappointment.   You are listed as Kentucky but don't have any Bourbon on the table.

Unless you drank it first.

There's definitely bourbon kickin' around in this house, but I'm mostly a beer guy.  I am working on a 4 Roses barrel strength single right now.  Here's a repost from an older thread...

Not my first, and I enjoy them.

The philosophical side of me would say we need more of them in GD, and less of the bickering.  But I've had a few beers at this point, so...
