Was totally looking forward to shooting my a2 build I put together last night........with the exception of the friggin gas tube roll pin that jettisoned into oblivion at the first strike of the punch.

No problem, right?  Let's fo to the hardware store for a 5/64 pin.  Ace?  nope.  No name hometown hardware?  Nope.  Well, I need to go 45 miles for some supplies at menards and home depot.  Surely one of those will have it and I'll shoot when I get back.

Nope.  No a2 rounds downrange.  No fond memories revisited.

Can I paypal somebody a couple bucks to have a pin taped to a 3x5 card from their Fastenal bulk stash and mailed to me?

Use a clear bag next time, in a clean room, with magnets.

I've never had a problem finding the right size in Ace.
But for a temporary fix, why not just thread a piece of wire paper clip through it and twist it well?

I could be in a White tiled room with nothing else in it, and I still wouldn't find the darn thing.
That's why I always keep extras on hand (detent pins and springs too).

This.
If I REALLY wanted to shoot it, I'd find something to hold that tube in place 'til I could get the proper pin.

I'm the same way when it's a small parts. I always order extras.

Lesson learned there.  I've built a few lowers and have extra detent springs in the parts box.  I've never had a roll pin just vanish into thin air like that.
