Anybody eat hummus? Is it healthy?
Looks about like regular Fritos bean dip, but healthier? I've tried the Sprouts store brand chipolte and the Central Market brand green chile, it's ok, chipolte is a little on the spicy side, don't like the green chile. Eating it with bean chips. Trying to get away from potato and corn chips with more caloric dips. |

Dips, sandwiches, mix with pasta, etc. You can buy it in powder form at the health food store and mix it at home. Or you can process your own cooked Chic Peas. It's good stuff. Hope this helps. |

It's absolutely disgusting. It's like they took diarrhea and sprinkled it with different kinds of food flavoring to give it the hint of something edible. ETA looks like i'm the only normal person that doesn't care for it. lol I can't stand mayo either. I can't stand it and I like chic peas/garbanzo beans. |

This ... fuck hummus and fuck mayonnaise! ![]() ETA: That being said the list of foods I don't like is fairly long. ![]() |

Nope. Everyone in my family and their families love the stuff (including my wife), but I just can't. I don't know why. Maybe it's a texture thing or something else. I tried spicy stuff (I'm a big fan of heat) and other flavors, but I just can't seem to like it.
Oh well, more hummus for them and more non-hummus stuff for me. |

Quoted: Homemade beats the store bought stuff by a mile, and you can add whatever flavors you like. You can use canned chickpeas, but I prefer using dried as they taste better and have no added sodium or anything. Alton Brown has a good recipe for it. It's so cheap at Costco! $5 for a big container! |

Love it. With pita or naan. Gives me the winds something fierce, though. Umm,. yeah, one could fly the goodwrench blimp with the gas generated. I make my own when I want it. Store bought is usually jacked up in some way. You can use dry beans, first soaking and cooking them and let them sit over night, or you can simply open a can or two for no difference in taste that I can tell and the bonus of no hard spots from the dry beans not absorbing liquid. Drain can of garbanzo/chick peas reserving the liquid. Food process til smooth with some olive oil. Thin with some of the reserved garbanzo liquid. Season with salt, pepper, and many different flavorings, most commonly garlic and lemon juice. Add in some cumin and tahini (or substitute a bit of peanut butter Great with home made pitas, veggies, etc. I would make home made pitas, while warm slather on some hummus, add on some chopped lettuce, some chopped onion, and some grilled marinated meat (garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper, rosemary, thyme whatever) I used to bring a big bowl of it to my friends' house for football Sunday. It was funny to watch the hot chicks get gassy. FWIW the canned beans are a hell of a lot less gassy than the dry beans. |

Too much trouble. Home hummus isn't better than Sabra, unless you like it extra garlicky or sour. It's so cheap at Costco! $5 for a big container! Quoted:

I like Haji food, but hummus tastes like drywall paste with a slightly grittier texture. The Whole Foods people try to mix in flavors to make it more palatable but it doesn't help. Oh look, its the new Thai-Pepper and Goat's Butthole flavored hummus. Delicious! Bullshit, you all know that it fucking sucks.
Its the kind of shit that women and effeminate men buy at Costco so they can feel like they are eating healthier, then it sits on the shelf in the fridge 'til they throw it out. Even fucking Hajis won't eat store bought hummus, they admit it sucks and claim grandma's homemade was the only real hummus -- of course grandma was killed by a car bomb back in '93, so its a moot point. Fucking hummus. Nasty. |
