I've never been delayed or denied in the past.
Now it's everytime or last 3 purchases. First was delayed and I picked it up 3 days later. Second was delayed and approved 1 day later. This was Tuesday/Wednesday of this week. Yesterday I go to buy a lower and it's delayed. The girl running the checks asked for a review and waiting 45 minutes on hold before I had to leave. Today I stop by to see if it's gtg and she tells me I'm on a hold until the 11th, 7 days. Wtf? What happened to 3 days then it's ok to sell if not denied? We have no waiting period here. |

What business hours does that store keep and how is the holiday affecting NICS investigations. Long weekend may be an issue |

While waiting on hold for 45 minutes yesterday the recording kept playing a "busier than normal" message in between music. I hope you are right anyway. The delay with being called back the next day I can handle, forcing me to wait 7 days in a no waiting period state everytime I buy something will require some looking into. |

I've been delayed on my last two purchases. I use to be able to go right in and buy and then randomly I bought an ar and was delayed one day. lol
I just received a call today that my Glock is ready to pick up after being delayed since Tuesday. Oh well. We may never know the system. |

OP, why not call the clerk out about the 7 day delay ?? I would have been asking some questions right then... Maybe because the clerk was following the law? The nics examiner tells you the brady law does not stop you from transfering the firearm on x date. To do so any sooner and atf or fbi finds out you'd be looking at a fine or loss of license. So yea call out the dude who is just trying to not get fired or get his license pulled. |

Saturday and Sunday are not business days, Monday is a holiday, Tuesday is the first day, Wednesday is the second, Thursday the third, and Friday you are GTG to pick up the gun. |

A revolver that other shops wouldn't make an offer on, we don't have buybacks here or else I'd go that route. Get a CCW, no wait. Got one, we don't work that way here. |

I'd try a new FFL... |

There is no rhyme nor reason to "delayed" responses.
On the rare occasions I buy a gun through my 01 FFL, I get delayed. And as an 01 FFL I am exempt from even doing a 4473! On average it takes two days to clear. Compare that to a customer whose batshit crazy soon to be ex-wife got a protection order. He became a prohibited person until he got the bogus order rescinded. He recently did a transfer and it came back approved in less than a minute. I see the background check process as a means to keep criminals from doing OTC transactions, but it is both an infringement and a failure. |

If I were pulled over, searched, police could find out if I have wants, warrants, prohibited from having a gun or not, if my gun has been reported or not, all in under 30 minutes. But the background people can't get shit right in under a day. Same with NFA stuff, it's bullshit to take 3-6 months, hell you can find a house a borrow 250,000 from the bank or government programs in 30 days or less. |

I was just on hold for 59min with nics and got a delay until 9/11 for the guy. That said, they've been running slow the past week or so anyway. Today did suck more than usual though. Usually on a busy weekend its been 30min max for the further review examiner. We were guessing that there was probably about 90% of examiners on vacation for the long weekend.

Reminded me of Black Friday today. Most of them work from home, according to one of the examiners. |

Ok to sell in 3 days means the dealer is free to if they wish.
Most larger stores and almost all chains choose not to sell without a proceed, which is their legal right.
I've caught a few delays recently, oddly enough on a single action .22 heritage, and an O/U 20 gauge for clays....... I'm not beyond thinking it's punitive, but probably just overworked, pissed off gov't employees. I don't even try on the weekend anymore, unless buying from a show. Never been delayed at a show, wonder if they have dedicated NICS folks? |

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1785225_Delay_from_NICS_even_with_UPIN_WTF.html I wonder if they're being extra careful after they fumbled the ball on Dylann Roofs NIC's check? |

Also, we had a 2A Tax Free weekend in MS this weekend. No sales tax on guns, ammo, etc. We sold 202 firearms at the location where I work in two days. Throw in a handful of delays and denials, subtract a few CCW bypasses and multiply that all the FFLs in MS and it probably bogged down a system already hammered by the rest of the US due to Labor day sales. All of the big gun retailers around here were blowing it out this weekend. Also OP, look into a UPIN if CCW doesn't work for you. |
| I used to get delayed 50% of the time roughly, there's a guy in Texas with the same first and last name, about the same age that's into weed according to his facebook page. After my arrest for attempted murder last spring (ruled self defense within 24 hrs - no charges, story is in Team archives now) I was delayed 10 days each my next 2 purchases. Now it's 100% delay with a normal 1-3 wait until NICS calls back. It's a hassle, so I plan accordingly, don't buy guns out of town unless I'm coming back anyhow. |
