I never realized how much that sounds like it could have been written by Phil Collins.

Not my favorite genre of music.
I don't necessarily dislike it, but neither do I necessarily like it.

In that respect, I'd listen to that more than other types of genre.

Yes. Although I admit I'm old enough that I should not have had to click on it to remember it but did!

IIRC they were former Genesis members, along with Phil Collins.

Mike Rutherford was a founding member of Genesis

The only member of the group Mike & The Mechanics that was also a member of Genesis was Mike Rutherford.
Mike Rutherford is one of the founding members of the band Genesis and one of the two original members of Genesis still with the band (the other being Tony Banks).

It sounds like Genesis because Mike Rutherford wrote songs for Genesis.

A couple of the songs from the first M&TM's album were rejected Genesis songs.

I really like the Collins / Rutherford / Hackett / Banks / Gabriel 70's version of Genesis.

Great song. Never saw the video til now. When he gives him the key all I can think of is the watch scene from pulpfiction.
