Those of you that wear them, do you have a preferred brand? I hear good things about Redwings, but I've never seen any I personally like the look of. I wear mostly Doc Martens on my days off, and I have a pair of their workboots that I like for work too. This is what I wear: I like them, but they're steel toe and the extra weight is kind of annoying sometimes. I've seen boots with a platic safety toe. Are these things any good? Lets hear what you like. |
| I cut firewood and tried some safty toe boots, heck with that, very uncomfortble for me, I go with some good K mart or Wal Mart boots(non safty toe) and hope if I ever mess up the saw will miss the toes if you know what I mean. Timberland seems to be a kind I like. |

Quoted: I have a pair of Gladiators that I love. I've hed them since 1998, and they're still going strong. They look a lot like Docs, but the stitching around the sole is white, and the soles are screwed in. |
| Hitec Magnums are available in steel toe, and are light and comfortable, more like a hi-top sneaker than a boot. Bates also makes a lightweight composite safety toe boot. Redwings make a good boot if they can get the fit right. You may want to try www.actiongear.com or www.coveshoe.com for starters. |
| I have 4 pairs of HH workboots and they are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. 2 pair are lace ups and 2 pair are slip on Wellington type boots. I wear the lace ups when I am doing work outside, but when I'm in the control room, I wear the slip ons. I have owned 2 pair of Wolverines and they were the heaviest boots I think have ever been made. It felt like I was walking around with concrete blocks tied to my feet. |
|
Quoted: Hitec Magnums I used to work at a store that sold Hitecs. I saw way too many come back with problems to ever buy a pair myself. They seemed to work fine for prison guards or other indoor workers (customs, etc.) but anyone that wore them outside, and heaven forbid in the brush, killed them quick. |

I've earned my RedWings, and that's about all I wear. I've got 8" boots, pull-ons, insulated & non-insulated, black, brown, you name it. Nine pair in all, all steel toe. Mostly, though, I wear ones similar to these: Heh, heh. After looking through the Red Wing Shoes site, I think I'll get another pair this week. |

Steel-toed Redwings on my feet right now. Style 8220. I like them. I have a few pairs of Doc Marten "Industrial" boots and have nothing but good things to say about them. Very comfortable and they last a long time too. |

I used to wear Justin mule hide but they quit making them about twenty years ago. I can’t wear lace up boots, never could. Red Wing make damn good welling style boots but they only come in ten inch top and I like the fourteen. I go through a pair of boots every three months no matter what brand. Right now the best I can find is the H&H wellington with rubber sole and fourteen inch top, $185.00. FWIW… I own one pair of tinny runners, two pair of golf shoes and seventeen pair of boots. Most of which are worn out work boots. Oldest and favorite pair I own are Lucchese Lizards that I got in 1977, my Sunday got to meetin boots [:D] |

http://www.redwingshoes.com/images/boots/large/8220.jpg I've worn that same boot for 5 years, they finally gave up the ghost, well the right boot did, last week. The sole came apart at the toe and the steel shank came out. I still own 2 other pair of 'Wings but they are logger style and usually just wear them when not at work. I went and bought a pair of Carolinas last week. Most comfortable boot I have worn out of the box, even more comfortable than Redwings Comfort Force boots and they look damn good. After having to wear steeltoe boots for the last 25 years,(manditory in Mining) The ONLY brand I would even consider is REDWINGS!!! They cost more than some, but are worth every penny. Make sure to get a pair that are comfortable,(not a problem w/Redwings) 'cause you will have them a long time!! |
| If you want work boots forget all the other brands mentioned and get either a pair of "White's" hand made in Spokane or "Viberg's" hand made in Victoria B.C. I have both and the quality in unbeatable but they are not cheap. You can find them by doing an internet search. |

being a welder i tend to burn up boots no matter who makes them pretty quick. Is my opinion that redwing makes the best quality longest lasting boot. However carolina makes a lightwight steel toe called the "4x4". It is by far the most comfortable work boot ive ever owned. The sad part is they have a very short life span. But if your on concrete all day long you would sell your soul for anything comfortable. |
| I go with the Herman survivors. As to steel toe, I wouldn't wear them at all unless required at your work. I have seen too many crush injuries that led to partial amputations due to the steel cutting the toe which may have been saved otherwise. I have no experience with composite/reinforced plastic toe boots. I prefer the hermans because they fit my foot the best. I have a very high arch and they just are more comfortable to me than any other I have tried. JMHO |

try some Corcoran Field 2 jump boots, they are comfy, have a hard toe cup (steel is optional), they are all leather with NO insulation. the only problem ive had, im on my 2nd pair, is the leather gets dried and cracks/tears wear the leather meets the hard toe cup. |
| I have found that proper fit is far more important than the actual weight of the boot. For example, I have one pair of Red Wing pull-ons that I purposely bought a bit loose. These are good for jumping in and out of in a hurry. However, wering them all day wears my feet out because they are so sloppy. Other pull-ons and all of my lace-ups are properly fitted, and I can wear them for extended periods (3 days straight once) with no sense of fatigue at all. The Chinese-made boots generally have inadequate footbed construction for the weight and service of the boot. |
