I will be doing an intake assessment on Sept. 11th and probably going in to detox off of Klonopin. Not know what the doctor was feeding me and doing much research, The stuff is all out nasty.
I was diagnosed with having Generalized Anxiety Disorder back in 2013. Been on this stuff since along with Citalopram. Have not had a panic attack since November of 2013. I've tried to taper off only to feel them withdrawal symptoms kick in and mess me up.

After doing much research lately, I've heard that the withdrawals are worse than coming off heroin for some people. The longer you're on it the more harder it is to deal with and could last for years even after Detox. The stuff has literally ruined my life over the past two years. I have not been able to hold a job from being tired and sluggish, Filed bankruptcy last month, And possibly having to sell one of my vehicles to cover auto insurance, cell phone, and internet. Thank God my Dad has been really supportive,

So take this as a warning, Do not go on this med no matter how bad you might be.  And it's even sad a Doc will throw pills at you when they shouldn't be in the first place especially with that type of med.

I'm hoping for the best for you.  I have a dear friend who was turned into a zombie when he trusted a doctor about a new wonder drug for his back, OxyContin.  He was the first ripple in a tidal wave that hit our area.  The stuff did wonders for him at first, he could work a full day and everything.  But then it turned ugly.  He was an addict.  And getting off the pills has been a constant battle now.  Should he have been more careful about following a doctor's advice?  Sure in hind sight he should have been.  Of course it would have been nice if the doctor in question was actually a real doctor and not just some guy who assumed a dead man's identity but that's a whole different story.

Good luck with your wild ride in detox.  I'll pray for you and your recovery.

i was taking Citalopram for a while.... i eventually dropped it, it would TOTALLY mess up your ability to have sex... / have a orgasm.  the stuff would stay in your system forever as well... if i took a single pill, sex was basically off the table for over a full week.

good luck op.. hope it works out for you.

I am prescribed .5mg  3 times a day as needed. Some times I take them and may go for weeks without.

I don't have a additive personality,  quit anything I want except for cigarettes.

I recently detoxed off very strong opiates in March.  I understand the struggle. If you need someone to talk to, IM me brother.
Being motvated is the only way to do it and understand there will be bumps in the road.

Dude, addictive personality has nothing to do with it when you're PHYSICALLY addicted to something. It alters your brain chemistry so that you really have to come off of it slowly or all sorts of crazy shit happens.

This, it alters the Gaba receptors in the brain. When you no longer have the med the brain thinks it's still getting the med when it's not.

I quit taking Percocet after 6 knee surgeries and three years of rehabilitation (for the knee) a year and a half ago. It wasn't fun, but life is so much better now!

Had a doctor write a scrip for that due to some anxiety issues years ago.

Read up on it a bit and never took a single one. Reading your story, I'm glad I didn't.

I was on it for a while, then I had to come off of it pretty quickly after I moved to a new state. My doc wrote me a script for several refills and I slacked on getting a new doc. I thought I had more refills than I did and found out I wasn't getting any more with just about a weeks worth left. Bourbon helped, seriously.

I needed it when it was initially given to me, but I took it for longer than I probably needed, while it did help me in a couple areas it also caused a lot of trouble in others and I'm glad to be off of it.

My withdrawals lasted about a week and I felt like I was in hell, but I'm fine and I'm off that shit for good now.

Sipping on some bourbon helped.

Good luck and God bless your recovery man.  As you already know benzos hit the gaba receptors hard.  There is one drug that hits every one of them... Alcohol.  You'll learn this in your "detox" with a good counselor, stay away from the beer and booze for a long time.  It can take months to years for the brain to heal itself.  I'll suggest AA, not because you have a drinking problem. (All AA requires is a desire to quit drinking BTW) but because in my opinion it's the strongest of the support/12 step groups due to the spirituality aspect and often length of sobriety.  Find a good meeting and you'll find people who have been through it all and come out the other side.  With the step work and a good sponsor you'll likely learn about yourself and network with some great people.  God keep you.

Yeah there is some indeed adverse effects being on it. While it helps it seems to hurt in other things.
